Qvest Media supports ARD and ZDF in the centralized production of the World Cup in Russia
The German public television stations ARD and ZDF deploy with the support of Qvest Media the latest in handheld technology from manufacturers such as Fujinon, Sony, EVS, Avid, Sennheiser, Sachtler, Grass Valley, AJA or Evertz for coverage of the World Cup in Russia.
public broadcasters ARD and ZDF have trusted Qvest Media to broadcast the World Cup from Russia. As with the South Korean Winter Olympics and previous international sporting events, the Qvest Media team has supported the technical infrastructure of ARD and ZDF by providing advice to their technical teams.
Among other things, the large distances between the twelve World Cup stadiums in Russia (the distance from Kaliningrad to Yekaterinburg, for example, is more than 3,000 kilometers) led ARD and ZDF to expand their National Broadcasting Center (NBC) at SWR in Baden-Baden to the central studio for the World Cup. A stable connection between the SWR site and Russia is ensured by two redundant 10 GB lines, which are used for 45 video links.
The broadcasters' agile production teams are deployed locally in Russia. Qvest Media is equipping SWR's ENG mobile teams with cameras Sony PXW-Z450 y PXW-FS7 MK II y lentes Fujinon, among others. For live interviews, reporters also have a set of several wireless microphones at their disposal. Sennheiser and radio links, directional microphones RED, tripods Sachtler and other gripping equipment ARRI, Cross target, Bebob y Quickpole.
Qvest Media uses modern equipment for live sports productions to meet the temporary additional demand for media technology for centralized production in Baden-Baden. Central ingest, highlight editing, output and playback are done with one installation of EVS such as IPDirector, XTAccess Ultra Performance servers and XT4K series servers, which can be flexibly used for ingest and output.
Editors access raw audio and video material using four shared storage solutions Avid Nexis E4 with a total storage capacity of 480 terabytes. One of the four high-performance storage facilities was already in use at ARD and ZDF.
In addition to the eight Avid editing systems owned by ARD and ZDF, Qvest Media has installed ten additional Avid Media Composer editing stations based on HP Z8 workstations with the Avid DNxIQ I/O interface.
For audio post-production, ARD and ZDF had already invested in two Pro Tools Ultimate systems, including Avid S6 consoles for the Winter Games. Now they are also used for the World Cup.
For format conversion, both broadcasters rely on Kudos equipment from SAM (Grass Valley). UHD/HD conversion is done using a converter AJA. Qvest Media also supplements the video monitors in the Baden-Baden central studio with multiviewers Evertz VIP-X.
