Volvo Ocean Race

The technology Vislink of xG Technology has made it possible to bring to the audience the broadcast of the Volvo Ocean Race, as an Official Supplier of Radio Frequency Transmission Equipment.

Vislink wireless video transmission equipment ensured that high-quality images taken from the race boats and helicopters were transmitted live, without degradation, to shore, as they were, for viewing on the Race Village's giant video screens, as well as on international television broadcasts.

Vislink's extensive experience in transmitting video over long distances, in any weather and in difficult conditions was key in an event that takes place at sea.

David Robins, Global Sales Director at IMT Vislink, notes that "this prestigious event is considered one of the most extreme sporting venues in the world. It was an exceptional opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in live broadcast technology and in delivering exceptional performance and reliability, even in the most demanding and unpredictable environments."

The race around the world is one of the toughest sporting challenges since the Volvo Ocean Race travels more than 45,000 nautical miles, facing waves of more than 40 meters and extreme temperatures ranging between -5 and 40 degrees Celsius. During the event, teams aboard 22-meter-long boats crossed four oceans in 9 months, competing in 11 stages between a dozen ports in the host city, and finishing in The Hague, Netherlands.
