Data Media upgrades IB3 archive to LTO8 tape-based solution
IB3 Television migrates the current IB3TV historical image archive with LTO2 and LTO3 tapes to LTO8 hosted in an Oracle StorageTek SL8500 library.
IB3, the Balearic regional television whose broadcast covers both the Balearic Islands and Catalonia as well as the main cable operators, has updated its filing systems.
The high demand for high definition content as well as the need to update the current filing system have led to the Public Radio and Television Entity of the Balearic Islands (EPRTVIB) to launch an interesting project that aims to highlight the content produced by IB3.
For this, Datos Media Technologies has carried out the integration of a solution based on technology Oracle. IB3 has chosen to continue with LTO tape technology, integrating LTO-8 and maintaining its compatibility with the LTO-2 and LTO-3 of the existing legacy library. In this way, Oracle's StorageTek SL8500 library has been expanded with LTO-8 drives, as well as tape replication and migration mechanisms, all controlled by Oracle Diva.
This system performs the tasks of migrating material from LTO2 and LTO3 tapes to LTO8, and also archives the new material in addition to recovering it for production even if it is archived in either of the two libraries.
Cloud copy
Another point of interest is the implementation of a copy of the material in the cloud. This is possible thanks to the technology of Oracle Cloud in which double copies of content that currently amounts to about 2 PB will be migrated. This option opens the door, not only to the possibility of cloud file access but also to the possibility of recovery in case of failure of existing local tape copies.
Diva Director and Diva Actor from Oracle will be in charge of automating all these migration, ingestion, recovery and integration flows of double copies in the cloud. Both have compatibility with any high definition material that was demanded in this project.
