Chris Budd, house music producer and owner of a They will listen iD22, and USB2 audio interface and monitor controller, has just delivered the music for the next season of the Formula E, which began in Ad Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, December 15.

Music plays an important role in Formula E, the sustainable electric vehicle sport. Budd, in turn, is an integral part of the creation of its soundtrack, delivering his own distinctive sound to a global audience.

"I generally give them large batches of music to use for streaming and racing at events. This music is also streamed to all outside broadcasts around the world, as well as to their social media channels, magazine shows, and the functions they perform," says the producer.

one of them is Ice Drive, a documentary that shows the electric racing series as they try to race a Formula E car on a sheet of ice.

They will listen to iD22Budd notes that "I get briefings asking for some rhythm vibes for highlight reels or euphoric orchestral vibes for victory parades. Similar to the world of film, I have to make music to fit the visual, without having to directly compose the cut. All music has to serve a certain purpose, so I generally treat each piece like making a cue for a movie. It's broad, but it fits well with my skill set, as I can invariably keep things going. musically in the electronic playing field.”

Now in its fifth year, each of the international racing seasons of all-electric street racing has its own soundtrack. “This project is very heavy, especially as it is more orchestra-based,” says Chris, who has just completed his third season with Formula E after receiving a call from Head of Music and former Ministry of Sound colleague Sam Cannon a couple of years ago.

Describing it as “a great challenge, which takes me out of my comfort zone,” he still enjoys sinking his teeth into “the guys' multiple outlets.”

"It's great luck to be able to align myself with such an advanced brand, musically. It works for my style while pushing me at the same time. It's also great to build with the brand and see the growth year after year is incredible, Formula E really is the future of motorsports, they seem to be as ambitious as I am!", he acknowledges.

When it comes to his studio setup, Chris admits that, aside from his trusty Audient iD22 “which is still the center of everything,” he's not a fan of having a lot of equipment. "I'm more into the ideas and the final product. I'll use whatever is most useful to get the desired results, whether it's live musicians or synths in or out of the box. The same goes for external hardware processing." As your main controller and speaker interface, the iD22 "is also useful for recording things like additional drums and guitars when needed and any vocal bits. The same goes for my entire workflow."

"On my own artistic side, I have my next batch of releases with deadmau5 coming out in early 2019 and I'm also working on material for my own album. Then at some point soon I'll pack my bags and get back on the road as BUDD," he concludes.
