The renowned classical music studio Tonzauber (magical sound) has launched a new study at the facilities of the Casino Baumgarten (Vienna, Austria) thus complementing its main location in the Vienna Concert Hall (Vienna Concert Hall).

For the historic site, Tonzauber required a compact but flexible mixing system with full 96kHz capability that could also be used for mobile applications in larger outdoor productions.

After studying several possibilities, the sound engineer and founder of Tonzauber, Georg Burdicek, opted for a live audio production mixing console Theirs mc²36 with 24 faders and a drive E/S Lawo Compact for additional inputs and outputs.

“The mc²36 is one of the few consoles that offers all the music production and dissemination functions, including a 5.1 bus and mix structure, even at 96 kHz, in an all-in-one system. Other systems are geared toward live sound, technologically outdated, can't handle 96kHz, or have an external DSP core. For us, the requirement was to be able to use the console both in the new machine room-less studio and in mobile applications. These criteria were only met by Lawo,” says Burdicek.

Although the sound engineer uses consoles from other manufacturers for his work in the recording studio, Burdicek has been regularly working with Lawo mc² audio consoles on various mobile units in cooperation with the production company TVN (Hannover) for many years.

As a result, you are very familiar with the product and the handling concept. "In addition to the convenient live recording functions, Lawo impresses with its reliability, uncompromising sound quality and customer service with an excellent reputation. The microphone preamplifiers are very close to my sound ideal," he admits.

Audio para broadcast

"Tonzauber is a small but very diversified company. With the new console, we are not only updating the Baumgarten Casino, a very special and historic venue, with uncompromising technology, but we are also expanding our portfolio of broadcast audio services. In the future, we will attach great importance to this area, whether for the growing use of streaming or as an external service provider for established broadcasters. With the Lawo mc²36, we present ourselves as a reliable partner with solid technology and flexible.”

For this businessman it is precisely this ergonomics which plays the main role in the studio until the final mix: the team still prefers to work with a “haptic” mixing console.

"I had the pleasure of personally picking up my console in Rastatt and spending a day with the team who would configure it beforehand to optimally suit my needs. I am still amazed at how easy and flexible it is to configure this small console to meet my needs. This significantly increases the ergonomic benefits of the entire system," concludes Burdicek.
