The Academy rewards subjective sound in 'El Reino'
Roberto Fernández and Alfonso Raposo win the Goya for best sound for their work on 'El Reino' in which lavalier microphones were necessary allies.
He Goya for Best Sound Direction fell on Roberto Fernández and Alfonso Raposo by The Kingdom, who had before them the task of transferring to the field of sound a story that begins in a festive and wasteful way to enter territories of unrest.
For Roberto Fernández it is the third film he has made with Sorogoyen and in the case of the award-winning film he states that “from very early on we began pre-production and script study, looking for ideas that would adapt to the main premise, which was none other than showing the change between that first moment in which the main character played by Antonio de la Torre is living the dolce vita and suddenly they catch him and everything begins to change: the people in his party do not want to know anything about him and they even want to get rid of him. him.”
In terms of sound, what Fernández explains translates into “a beginning of the film that is a sound party and turns towards the subjectivity of the character, which becomes empty.”
“The filming has been quite complicated,” Fernández continues because in this film Sorogoyen wanted to use angular betas and the film is full of very open shots in which there is a lot of air in the frames and we see ceilings, which greatly complicates the sound work. Fortunately, being a film about politicians dressed in suits, ties were an essential ally to hide microphones. “Every person who wears ties has a hidden microphone.”
Regarding the sound mixes, explains Alfonso Raposo, which were done in the studios To this in Madrid. "My work in this case has been simpler than on other occasions because everything was very well designed and worked out, very well worked out, which makes the mixing work easier, which consists of finishing clarifying certain things. So I have tried to contribute my grain of sand." The work has been done on Pro Tools (Avid).
