Christie - Mike Perkins - Christie E3LH Dolby Vision Cinema

Mike Perkins, Product Development Manager, Christie, has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences American with the Scientific and Technical Award thanks to his work in the development of the Christie E3LH Dolby Vision Cinema projection system.

Christie E3LH Dolby Vision Cinema has been highlighted by the Academy for being “the first projector” that puts a combination of HDR (high dynamic range) and WCG (broad color spectrum). The system, which can be used with projection head in single or dual configuration, has a patented relay lens that allows presentations in stereoscopic 3D at full brightness and, by generating simultaneous images to both eyes, improves the user experience. The system has already been installed in more than 300 movie theaters, commercial and non-commercial, including 3D color review and correction rooms in more than fifteen countries.

The projection system debuted in June 2015 with the premiere of Tomorrowland, and its technology has contributed considerably to improving the experience of movie theater viewers: with this system, black levels on screen have multiplied the usual range from 2000:1 to 1,000,000:1, thereby achieving total blackness in dark scenes and, due to the action of the RGB pure laser lighting, an increase in color gamut that goes beyond the DCI color space standard.

The Academy Scientific and Technical Award recognizes those individuals and companies whose discoveries and innovations contribute significantly and lastingly to the improvement and development of cinema. The recognition granted to Perkins will be made public at the ceremony awards ceremony official, which will take place on February 23 at the Academy of Arts Museum in Los Angeles, California.
