Madrid will host the 21st Short Film Week from April 1 to 7 with Colombia as the guest country
Simultaneously, the third edition of the Professional Short Film Forum will take place, which will include activities to promote collaboration and the generation of new proposals, including pitching of projects.
One more year, the Community of Madrid launches the Short Film Week. This year, the festival will expand its sections dedicated to international short films and the Professional Short Film Forum, which will celebrate its third installment. This will be the twenty-first edition of the contest.
As always, the focus of the Week, which will be held from April 1 to 7, will be the competitive section. The participating short films will compete for the Madrid en Corto Awards, the Telemadrid/La Otra Awards and the distinctions awarded by professional entities.
Also, this year Colombia will be the guest country of this 21st edition and Bogoshorts, one of the most important short film festivals in Latin America, which takes place annually in the city of Bogotá.
Making known the values of cinematography, disseminating the artistic importance of the short film industry among the Madrid public and being a meeting point for professionals in the sector are the fundamental objectives of the Short Film Week.
The festival has 3 main axes:
- Official section and informative sections:
42 short films produced in 2018 that have had help from the Community of Madrid will be screened. These short films, some of them absolute premieres, will participate in the competitive section. In parallel, the festival will travel to more than sixty municipalities in the Community of Madrid, where information sessions will be held.
- Professional Short Film Forum:
This initiative, which was born in 2017 to bring together professionals in the sector, grew in 2018, and this year will include activities to promote collaboration and the generation of new proposals, among them, pitching of projects for co-production and distribution, including international projects through a new agreement with the European co-production program Euroconnection; meeting of actors and directors; international meetings and with the guest country, Colombia.
- Training activities:
Workshops and talks on new technologies, production, script, other “short” formats, image, sound and direction.
The Cine Bellas Artes and the Sala Alcalá 31 will be the central venues for the screenings and activities, which will also take place in spaces in more than 60 Madrid municipalities.
