Los Platinum Ibero-American Cinema Awards, the first global audiovisual awards in Spanish and Portuguese have just announced the 4 finalists for each category for its VI Edition.

Juan Carlos Arciniegas has been the host of the event accompanied by the interpreters Angie Cepeda, Jaime Camil, Joaquín Cosio, Karla Souza and Luis Gerardo Méndez, in charge of announcing the 17 categories that make up the most important awards in Ibero-American cinema, in an event held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, broadcast in streaming on Facebook Live.

The gala will be held on May 12 at the Gran Tlachco Theater of the Xcaret Park (Riviera Maya), culminating a week in which networking events of the Ibero-American audiovisual and cultural industry will be scheduled.

Among the Spanish candidates, the most notable ones are, due to their presence in the largest number of categories, Champions y The Kingdom, with five and three nominations respectively. In the case of Campeones, by Javier Fesser, also nominated for Best Director, and together with La Noche de 12 años, presented by Uruguay with Spanish participation, they continue in the race towards PLATINUM in the category of Best Ibero-American Film.

In the sections that reward performances in fiction feature films, Antonio de la Torre for El Reino, Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz for Todos lo Saben and Javier Gutiérrez for Campeones continue in this final selection phase.

The productions Memoirs of a man in pajamas y One more day alive They continue their path towards Platinum for Best Animated Feature; just like Shrimp. Flamenco and Revolution y The silence of others for the Platinum for Best Documentary Film.

Carmen and Lola, by Arantxa Echevarría and Viaje al Mother's Room, by Celia Rico Clavellino is also up for Platinum for Best First Feature.

The section that rewards feature films for their ability to lead to reflection on social and human values, the Platinum for Cinema and Education in Values, has in its candidacies the productions Campeones, by Javier Fesser, Carmen y Lola, by Arantxa Echevarría and The Night of 12 Years, by Alvaro Brechner.

Arde Madrid and its interpreters Anna Castillo and Inma Cuesta, Javier Rey for Fariña and Najwa Nimri for Vis a Vis maintain their options to win the awards that praise series or miniseries.

Madrid burns, with a total of three nominations, is the series with the greatest representation in this final phase.

Among the rest of the nominated Spanish productions we find July, for Best Music (Alberto Iglesias) and The man who killed Don Quixote (Benjamín Fernández), in the art direction category.

The Kingdom is also a finalist in the categories of best photography, editing and sound direction with Alejandro de Pablo, Alberto del Campo and Roberto Fernández and Alfonso Raposo respectively.

For the sixth consecutive year and as a sign of the rise of Ibero-American filmographies, the number of participating productions has set a record of 925. Of these, a total of 29 have been selected as finalists to be among the 4 candidates for each of the 17 award categories. An internationally prestigious jury made up of 121 professionals from the audiovisual sector and a community of more than 1,000 filmmakers will decide the winners of the VI edition of the Platino Awards.

Once again, the ceremony will take place in an imposing location at the height of awards that are the best global showcase for Ibero-American cinematography. From the Xcaret Group, Luis Carlos Velázquez, thanked the documentary “Volando a Casa” for the recognition, which tells the story of the reintroduction of the scarlet macaw to the jungles of Mexico. He spoke out because cinema continues to tell many stories in which the dignity of people, inclusion, care of natural and cultural heritage shine, and the construction of a better world for all is promoted.

For the Riviera Maya, hosting the Platinum Awards represents a great opportunity to project itself as an avant-garde and captivating destination in the eyes of the world. The Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council is pleased to participate as a sponsor in the realization of this important event, since it is the first time that a venue is repeated in the history of the gala.
