Fujifilm and Avacab Audiovisuales organize a masterclass on 4K vs HD optics

Throughout this masterclass it was demonstrated that Ultra HD and HDR lenses, unlike HD lenses, present a series of characteristics that provide advantages in extreme situations.

Fujifilm Spain y Avacab Audiovisuals last Tuesday, May 21, in Madrid, they organized a masterclass in which the performance and possibilities offered by the 4K optics compared to HD for Ultra High Definition production. Throughout this masterclass it was demonstrated that Ultra HD and HDR lenses, unlike HD lenses, present a series of characteristics that provide advantages in extreme situations.

Among other issues, the masterclass addressed issues such as the operation of a zoom optic, the zoom differences between different formats and focal lengths or the advantages of 4K optics and their importance in workflows such as HDR.

The use of zoom in 1-sensor and 3-sensor cameras, its power, technical limitations, advantages and disadvantages, as well as its calibration and practical controls, care and advice for use, were also discussed.

Those who attended this masterclass were able to test Fujinon LA16X8BRM optics y XA20sx8.5BRM among others, in cameras Blackmagic Ursa Broadcast and the Sony HXC-FB80, with which the behavior of different optics in cameras with 1 and 3 sensors, respectively, was demonstrated.

The director of photography Juan Fernandez, with more than thirty years of experience in film, advertising, TV and scientific film, with specialties in underwater film, high-speed cinematography and EFX, was in charge of conducting this masterclass.

Fernández is director and professor of cinematography at Afilm International Film Workshops, with more than twenty years teaching cinematography, camera and Steadicam operator at institutions such as UCLA, Panasonic, ESAC and Pompeu Fabra University, among others, in addition to giving technical seminars with numerous manufacturers. He is a member of the AEC, serving on its board of directors and on the Imago Technical Committee (International Federation of Cinematographers Associations).
