Vivendi subsidiary Canal+ France could soon offer Netflix distribution directly in a premium package.

Canal+ France

In 2014, when Netflix arrived in France, the historic pay television channels such as Canal+ They immediately feared the worst. It took the French group almost five years to present an offer that could compete with Netflix: Canal+Séries.

Now, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro, the two services are in the process of concluding a partnership to unify distribution. As a result, Netflix could be integrated as an option on Canal+. Following the same logic as the Canal+Séries formula, Vivendi should take advantage of this opportunity to present new rates, integrating packages that contain Netflix.

While the first private pay television channel in France, created in 1984, has just over 4 million subscribers, Netflix has already accumulated 5 million subscribers in just five years. Furthermore, unlike Canal+, the curve of the American platform seems to be quite upward. Although Canal+ generates even more revenue than Netflix, the agreement between the two could generate interesting synergies for both parties.
