Netflix tests a linear television service in France
This linear service will allow you to discover the best French, European and international content available in its catalogue.
Netflix, which in the first two quarters of 2020 added 26 million subscribers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, almost as many as it added for the entire year 2019, appears to be willing to experiment with linear content.
In France, a linear television service has just been launched, called Direct, in which popular content occurs on the platform such as The Crown, Money Heist, Mortel o Gregory configuring a grill in the purest traditional style.
The service, which has begun broadcasting in the testing phase, is currently only accessible to its subscribers who, at the same time, will be able to continue enjoying their on-demand programs normally.
Netflix has chosen France as the terrain for this experiment since traditional television consumption is very popular in the neighboring country. “Many viewers like the idea of programming that avoids having to choose what to watch,” they comment from Netflix.
This linear service will allow “discovering the best French, European and international content available on the service.”
Netflix has tested other alternatives to its standard streaming offerings, launching a button in some territories Shuffle which allows users to randomly scroll through recommended display options. With Netflix Direct, all viewers of the channel will watch the same programming at the same time.
