Orbiter, ARRI's new LED luminaire, aims to change the way the industry views digital lighting with ultra-bright, tunable and directional light.

ARRI Orbiter

ARRI presents in this IBC 2019 Orbiter, a new luminaria LED which is set to change the way the industry views digital lighting. Ultra bright, tunable and directional, Orbiter is a technologically advanced luminaire designed for maximum versatility. Your new six color light engine It offers a wide color gamut and excellent color reproduction at all color temperatures, along with smooth, industry-leading dimming from 100 to 0%.

With its interchangeable optics, Orbiter can transform into many different types of spotlights, including projection (profile), open face, y soft light. Additional features such as a fast processor, ample memory, expanded connectivity, an integrated set of sensors and a weather-resistant housing make the Orbiter a very interesting luminaire.

He Quick Lighting Support (QLM) Orbiter allows you to fix optics with very different properties to the luminaire. The high-performance directional beam of open-face optics is ideal for casting light over long distances. The high precision of the projection optics creates a perfect circle of light that can be shaped with cutters, focus and gobos. Dome optics provide soft, omnidirectional light ideal for illuminating large spaces, and a universal QLM adapter creates a direct mounting point for Orbiter-specific Chimera and DoPhoice products.

Orbiter is a directional LED lamp extremely bright and powerful with a similar output to that of the corresponding HMI systems. Its new high-performance, yet tunable, ARRI Spectra light engine can create harsh shadows with sharp edges.

Including a red, green, blue, amber, cyan and lime LED, the six-color light engine ARRI Spectra results in a wider color gamut, more accurate colors and, most importantly, greater color reproduction across the entire CCT range. Skin tones look stunning and natural, and tones are accurately reproduced. Orbiter has a wider CCT range of 2,000 to 20,000K with ultra-high color reproduction at all color temperatures. Using a combination of three dimming techniques, Orbiter's state-of-the-art electronics provide smooth dimming to zero without color shifts or skips.

ARRI's new solution takes advantage of the software development of the popular SkyPanel. Their new software called LiOS (Lighting Operating System) It includes all the innovative and revolutionary features of the SkyPanel, plus others that make Orbiter one of the most complete luminaires on the market. LiOS' eight-color modes include CCT, HSI, single color, x/y coordinates, gel and source matching, lighting effects, and the new color sensor mode that measures ambient light and recreates it through the Orbiter output. Other new features in LiOS include simplified DMX modes, performance-enhancing operating modes, over 240 slots for favorites to be stored, optical recognition, multi-language support, a custom home screen, and many more to come.

With a 4″ full color screen, quick navigation buttons and integrated sensors, the Orbiter control panel allows easy use with a graphical user interface. Simplified menu structure and reimagined user interfaces provide at-a-glance operational views and uncluttered screens. This intuitive design makes changing the color or finding a setting easier than ever. Furthermore, the control panel is removable and can be operated manually with the help of a 5 or 15 m (16.4 or 49.2 ft) control panel cable.

Improved connectivity

Including a full set of input and output connectors, Orbiter is ready for digital communication today and tomorrow. Ethernet daisy chaining is now possible with two EtherCON ports supporting Art-Net 4, sACN and TCP/IP. Two USB-A ports are used for LiOS updates and connecting third-party peripherals such as USB Wi-Fi dongles. LumenRadio's CRMX solution is included, enabling wireless DMX. Two 5-pin XLR DMX ports used for conventional DMX and RDM input and output communication, and one 3-pin XLR DC input for 48V power station. An SD card slot allows for future software expansion. Finally, a USB-C port is available for communication and computer maintenance.

Finally, note that it includes a color sensor to measure ambient light, a 3-axis accelerometer and a magnetometer to detect the horizontal, vertical, roll and heading movement of the unit, heat sensors to keep the LEDs and electronics at exactly the correct temperature, and an ambient light sensor to automatically dim the control panel screen. All of these sensors allow for a better user experience and greater control of the unit. The available data improves the workflow also in post-production and service.
