ISO 50409600 sensitivity, a large dynamic range and the world's first full-frame sensor capable of sending all pixel information without pixel binning through an HDMI video output for video and 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160), mark the launch of this new camera at NAB 2014.

Sony A7S

In the turbulent sea of alternative chambers, Sony He did not want to be left out by entering the field that the emerging competition from the photo and IT world is setting for him. At NAB 2014, the Japanese multinational has surprised with the launch of the α7S, capable of capturing professional quality photographs and highly sensitive video recordings.

Sony's α7S joins the α7 and α7R, the world's smallest full-frame interchangeable lens cameras, adding outstanding sensitivity, low noise and spectacular 4K (3840x2160) image quality.

Equally suitable for both photography and cost-conscious video professionals, the α7S offers spectacular artistic possibilities in the smallest body of any full-frame interchangeable-lens digital camera in the world.
The key to the α7S's extraordinary sensitivity lies in the new, specially developed Exmor 35mm full-frame CMOS image sensor.

At 12.2 effective megapixels, the size of each individual photoreceptor has grown significantly to increase its light-gathering ability. Coupled with the camera's powerful BIONZ

This sensitivity and its incredibly low noise levels allow the α7S to capture delightful images in very low light where a longer exposure would normally be needed. Thanks to the camera's enormous sensitivity, it is possible to capture sharp, low-noise snapshots and videos using higher shutter speeds. Its large dynamic range is also ideal for high-contrast scenes, as it can effortlessly handle extreme brightness and deep, rich blacks in the same frame.

Thanks to the extraordinary sensitivity of the image sensor, the amount of light it can collect increases dramatically when compared to conventional cameras. The newly developed image sensor provides photographers/videographers with great dynamic range in any conditions, from the most extreme darkness to the brightest sunlight.

Using data readout from every pixel of the 35mm, full-frame (24p, 25p) sensor, the 4K4 images created by the α7S have stunning detail, surprisingly rich colors and completely natural textures in every shot. Taking full advantage of the BIONZ

full frame

Thanks to the full pixel transmission of the entire 35mm, full-frame sensor, there is a notable absence of unwanted aliasing (moiré) effects and jagged edges, present in lower resolution videos. Its strikingly clear images can be recorded to a memory card in Full HD quality in the XAVC S recording format at a bit rate of 50Mbps, a speed highly valued among professional video producers. In APS¬C mode the α7S supports a high frame rate of 120fps or 100fps with HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels). 120fps recordings can be played back at 24p for a 5x slow motion effect, ideal for seeing every detail of a sports scene or the fastest dance moves.

There is a whole collection of specialized features to please professional video producers such as Picture Profile to open up your visual expression and SLog2 gamma. Time code/user functions enable professional-style workflow editing, while the XLR Microphone Adapter Kit enables high-quality audio acquisition.

Already proven on the α7R, high-speed, high-precision Intelligent Fast Autofocus has been further improved to take full advantage of the camera's outstanding new low-light performance.
