Tedial and Telefónica announce in the prelude to IBC an important update of RTVE's MAM
Radio Televisión Española will migrate its entire historical archive to the new Tedial Evolution MAM and will benefit from a fully automated media management workflow.
Tedial y Telefónica have announced in the run-up to IBC 2019 the renewal of its technological contract for media management (MAM) by Spanish Radio Television (RTVE).
The Spanish public broadcaster is immersed in a cutting-edge digital transformation process, which includes multiple technological advancement projects at its headquarters that will allow it to adapt to current and future technological evolutions. Within this digital strategy is the project of renewal of your historical archive, which will allow greater synergy between your systems and digital workflows, thus adapting to changing needs years after the implementation of the original project.
Telefónica is updating RTVE's MAM solution of Tedial Tarsys and Tedial Evolution, which will provide RTVE with a sophisticated workflow orchestration y business process management (BPM). The update will allow RTVE to migrate its historical archive to the new platform, automate its entire MAM workflow from ingestion to distribution and have more advanced integrations with third-party systems.
Telefónica, once again the main contractor for the overhaul project, is in charge of the hardware platform upgrade, integration and engineering project that will allow RTVE a smooth transition to the new platform.
RTVE installed Tedial's Tarsys MAM in 2011, when it began one of the most ambitious digitalization projects in the broadcast sector, and undoubtedly the largest in the Spanish-speaking world, carried out by its technological partner, Telefónica. The objective of Radio Televisión Española was to digitize its entire historical archive of Documentary Funds (based on video tapes in U-matic format, 1 inch, and in cinematographic format such as Open Reel), which covers more than 50 years since the beginning of its broadcasts.
The archive covers many important events in the history of Spain. Thanks to Tedial Evolution, RTVE can now focus its strategy on the production ingestion and delivery processes, and can transmit this valuable content to its television channels or offer it to other television networks. The upgrade provides new virtualized servers and storage infrastructure that allows you to automatically overhaul workflows to improve system and operations efficiency.
He deep archive will be fully integrated with all production areas, which will allow RTVE operators to archive all content from any point in the production chain to Tedial Evolution and quickly and easily restore content from the Historical Archive. The Tedial update, led by Telefónica, also means that RTVE now has a centralized system that can manage the content of its three centers in Torrespaña and Prado del Rey (Madrid) and Barcelona from a single center (in Prado del Rey) with disaster recovery located in Barcelona.
Esther Mesas, CSO/CMO of Tedial, states that "we are delighted that RTVE has continued to trust Tedial and Telefónica to update and migrate its historical archive to the new Evolution platform. The project comprises the entire RTVE archive that currently manages more than 500,000 hours of content, one of the largest digitized archives in the world. The system is already in use and the amount of historical content archived increases every year."
For its part, Jose Luis Garcia, director of Audiovisual Platforms and Systems at Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales, acknowledges that "it has been a pleasure for us to work again with RTVE and Tedial. This new project will offer easier operation and deliver optimized workflows adapted to the new client requirements, due to the changing needs since the original project to digitize the historical archive was carried out."
