Clear-com's Eclipse HX matrix delivers All-IP intercom at Hungarian F1 Grand Prix

The system was provided by HDwireless, the German wireless technology specialist, through Audio-Technica, Clear-Com's distribution partner for Germany.

A digital matrix system Clear-Com, Eclipse HX, served as an all-IP wireless intercom solution for Antenna Hungary, the host broadcaster of the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, ensuring a clear and flexible communication system in one of the largest, noisiest and most complex broadcast environments.

The system was provided by HDwireless, the German wireless technology specialist, via Audio-Technica, Clear-Com's distribution partner for Germany.

The system needed to cover an extremely wide area, including the pit lane, paddock and TV compound, ensuring a reliable signal in a high traffic audio environment, and providing exceptional audio clarity despite the extreme noise levels of the F1 cars.

HDwireless had previously used UHF radios for this event due to the size of the area they had to cover, but the team was eager to deploy their newly acquired Clear-Com solution.

The system included a Eclipse HX-Delta array with 12 audio connections with the Antenna Hungária mobile unit, in addition to Iris panels from the serie V, FreeSpeak II digital wireless beltpacks and IP-connected transceivers FreeSpeak II.

Patrick Nussbaum, CEO of HDwireless, said: "We have supported the host broadcaster with wireless camera systems and wireless video transmission for several years. Until now we had used UHF radios as an intercom setup, but we were looking for more flexibility, more channels per user and better audio quality. We had already used the Clear-Com FreeSpeak II digital wireless system for the Nürburgring 24-hour race in Germany and everything worked perfectly. In Hungary we established the old UHF system as a backup, but not “We needed to use it at all. The Clear-Com system worked perfectly and our customer was very happy.”
