Sony announces the third generation its high capacity file optical disc archive
Optical Disc Archive Gen3 offers greater capacity and speed, with 5.5 TB per cartridge and a transfer of 375 Mb/s.
Sony has announced the third generation of its popular high capacity file system Optical Disc Archive which includes desktop USB disk units (ODS-D380U), Ibre-Channel units (ODS-D380F) and Mida cartridges (ODC5500R) developed for safe and long -term data storage.
Each cartridge is composed of 11 discs by "Archival Disc", developed jointly with Panasonic, which provide 500 GB of disk storage for a Total capacity of 5.5 TB, which represents an increase of more than sixty percent compared to GEN2. With an estimated useful life of more than a hundred years, Optical Disc Archive Gen3 is an ideal solution for long -term, lasting and reliable storage.
The new Optical Unit of 8 Business Class Gen3 Read and write on both sides of the double -sided supports to allow a safe data transfer and High speed of 375 mb/s reading and 187.5 mb/s of writing, 1.5 times higher than the previous generation. The integrity of the data is guaranteed through the “on the march” verification combined with highly stable storage means. The including fixity check function provides a long -term auditable data integrity.
More security
The new generation is resistant to changes in temperature and humidity and is superior to external factors, including water, light and EMP (electronic magnetic pulse). Optical Disc Archive Gen3 can also reduce long -term expenses thanks to its low energy consumption and environmental respectful. In addition, its reliability, set of characteristics and compatibility with previous versions eliminate the need for data migration among several media generations.
Sony is currently developing a business class library solution with Qualstar Corporation that uses Gen3 technology. The high capacity solution will scale from 4.7pb to 50pb per library and can be climbed to multibibliotecarios cluster configurations capable of managing hundreds of file data petabytes. The new Petasite Ex solution will be exposed at Sony Stand 795 in SC19 in Denver, CO, as of November 17, 2019.
ODS-D380U, SDG-D380F units, ODC5500R will be available in January 2020.
