The Lithuanian Systems Integrator TVC has completed the construction of the new mobile unit for Norwegian public television NRK around an IP audio infrastructure of Theirs, including a mc²56 mixing console, and A__UHD processing engine y control VSM.

The new vehicle with advanced equipment is an investment for NRK's ambitious future productions and is part of a technological standardization within radio and television production facilities and mobile studios, as NRK already uses mc² consoles in its concert hall and for news program productions.

The OB24 unit with 13.6 meters long (and an expandable width to 4.15 meters) and 26 tons of weight offers great interior space with 24 seats dedicated working hours, high levels of acoustic and thermal insulation, automatic preparation for operation and transport, and easy maintenance and reliability.

It has two production rooms, an operator's gallery for slow motion, a camera control area, a separate audio room and a completely separate equipment and server room, with a separate entrance door from the outside.

NRK OB24 In addition to its extension on one side, the truck features foldable protective roofs on the extendable side and on the entry platform, underfloor interior heating and preparation for use in cold climates, since its main production tasks include winter sports such as biathlon, slalom and ski jumping. Other productions will include cultural and musical events.

The new OB24 has eLatest generation Lawo IP broadcast equipment. The center of the audio infrastructure is a 64-fader Lawo mc²56 Broadcast Production Console and core providing 5,096 x 5,096 crossover points and fully redundant use of 512 channels of Lawo's A__UHD core, with an upgradeable power capacity of 1,024 DSP channels, as well as Dallis, A__stage80 and Power Core RP for the I/O interface and mix.

For the overall broadcast control system, with its tight integration of video and audio routing and mixing systems, and GPIO, TVC has adopted Lawo's VSM IP broadcast control and workflow solution with operation panels configured by Lawo project engineer Anthony Teunen, together with the NRK team.

A single separate extendable platform allows quick access to a separate quarter rack, even without expanding the entire trailer. Its lower rear door has a non-slip aluminum cover, which forms a roof with side covers, or tent, convertible to a work ramp with a 300 kilo loading capacity.

The unit has 28 cameras (24 CCUs + 4 RF Link cameras) that includes equipment from Sony (cameras, production mixer, monitoring, video mixer), Grass Valley (video matrix and multi-display), EVS (slomo servers, network hub), Vizrt (graphics) and Genelec (audio monitoring).

Earl Felin, Vice President of Northern Europe Operations at Lawo, comments: "We worked closely with NRK and TVC to ensure that we chose a design that is future-proof for scalability and new workflows. The system already supports SMPTE 2110/2022-7 and, thanks to its Ravenna AoIP and A_UHD design, can be upgraded to meet any new demands for formats, IO capacity and DSP without the need for a large redesign. In addition, the use of the Lawo Powercore RP as a stagebox offers new possibilities for the use of mixing and DSP functions in stages, mixed zones and other destinations that need this function without adding latency to the monitor outputs. The TVC team has done a great job with the deployment.
