Lawo VSM, axis of Cinevideo's new 4K 12G mobile unit

The latest mobile unit Cinevideo, a vehicle with the capacity of up to 20 UHD cameras and based on 12G SDI technology, is structured around the VSM emission control system of Theirs.

The tool of Theirs is responsible for the overall management and operation of the mobile unit in combination with a set of software and hardware panels, as well as various units GPIO. Project management, installation and commissioning were carried out by Aret Video and Audio Engineering, a company that for years has been Cinevideo's trusted systems integrator.

Waves 12G, as the mobile unit has been named, is a trailer of 14 meters and three axles equipped with double expansion, which creates a work surface of about 60 square meters in operational mode. To be able to attend several events at the same time, it has three separate entrances for technical and artistic staff: technical area, main production room and secondary production room. The Waves 12G can be used in combination with Dolphin 7.0, another mobile unit from Cinevideo, to be used in combination in productions in which two main control rooms and two reserve ones are required.

Theirs Network Bridging

Andrea Buonomo, executive director of sales at Cinevideo, opted from the first moment to re-implement VSM, a tool that in its own words “allows integrated control of all equipment.” "It's stable and reliable, and I love the way it helps us solve complex configuration problems at our fingertips. It's easy and friendly, and we've learned to customize it, so we're also quite independent in our configurations," he continues.

For its part, Alessandro Asti of Arrest wanted to highlight the interconnectivity of the two mobile units: “The two trucks called Dolphin and Waves are individual entities and can also work together as a combined unit, all controlled by Lawo's VSM system.” Chas Rowden, sales director of Theirs in Europe, focuses on this characteristic: “This Lawo configuration, called 'Network Bridging', allows two or more independent VSM-controlled IP installations to share relevant sources. Whenever a network infrastructure needs to access selected sources from another network, VSM makes it easy by preserving most of the functionality exposed to operational workflows.”

Initially scheduled for launch last June, the project suffered major construction delays due to the pandemic, so work was completed in November 2020.
