GloboSat successfully carries out a remote immersive production in 4K with Lawo V__matrix and mc² consoles
With an audience of more than 45 million viewers throughout Brazil, Globosat is the largest pay television operator in Latin America and the market leader in Brazil.
For the production of the 2019 edition of Rock in Rio, GloboSat used a remote production which connected the TV compound (also known as Cidade do Rock -City of Rock-) in the Barra Olympic Park with the GloboSat production center, about 15 kilometers away via two 2x 80 Gbits/s fiber optic lanes (red and blue).
The complex was designed as a central point to collect all the signals coming from the different scenarios. The smaller ones, including the Sunset, were equipped with units Their V__remote4 for video and audio conversion to IP and signal processing, transmitting the signals to the television complex located near the main Palco Mundo stage.
Given the relatively small distance, the 16 cameras and audio signals from the main stage were transmitted to the infrastructure of the television complex via SDI. The redundant IP infrastructure of the TV complex was designed on switches Arista 7280 y Find V__matrix to convert baseband SDI signals to IP, process and compress video signals and provide multiviewers. One of the V__matrix C100 was used to generate a multi-screen mosaic with 24 PiPs whose design was prepared with Lawo's theWall software. The other software-defined C100s were dedicated to processing and conversion tasks.
HD and 4K
In total, they used 28 fuentes HD 1080i y 4K compressed in VC2 for video production. At GloboSat's headquarters, the installation's V__matrix infrastructure received HD and 4K signals, in addition to discrete audio from the Tv Compound for remote production.
Alexandre Torres, Director of Development at Globosat, comments that "we used Lawo to encapsulate the signals and transport them to the Globosat headquarters, which allowed us to work from home, in our familiar infrastructure and record everything. IP has become a necessity for us. We operate dozens of channels originating from different contribution locations. In addition, IP allows us to participate in remote production, easily automate certain routines and share our signals with third parties. Preparation times are reduced and a significantly greater number of channels “They can be transported by a single cable with a much higher quality than in the past.”
To monitor and ensure the signal integrity of all power supplies to the ST2110 of production, GloboSat used the solution smartSCOPE Deep Packet Media Inspection & Network Analyzing by Lawo. Being installed on a server in the main installation, it also allowed easy on-site access and monitoring on the remote Tv Compound via the smartSCOPE web interface.
The audio mix Dolby Atmos It was produced at the Globosat headquarters using a Lawo mc²96 production console. The console and HD audio matrix Nova73 They also handled all audio routing for the full 4K and HD productions.
The sound engineers worked with 256 audio channels (128 per stage), which were recorded and distributed in various places. The Lawo mc²96 router-in-a-console allows up to 256 IP streams to be managed, making it ideal for routing in complex multi-site audio setups.
Gabriel Thomazini, audio operational coordinator at Globosat, emphasizes that "we record up to 256 audio channels. We receive streams, generate streams, send them to various places and convert the streams from Ravenna to MADI and DANTE or vice versa. This is only possible with a console like the mc²96."
"One of the aspects I like most about Lawo consoles is their authentic and clear sound, which is a true reflection of the timbre of an instrument. I suspect this can be attributed to the German precision of the manufacturer...", he adds.
The remote production of Rock in Rio was not the first of its kind for Globo. Known for pioneering broadcasting in Brazil with the first live broadcast in 4K and Dolby Atmos in 2015, the broadcaster has been using remote production on several occasions, including the 4K broadcast of the Rio Carnival and coverage of the Brazilian Football League.
