‘Pasapalabra’ returns to Antena 3
Atresmedia TV and ITV Studios reach an agreement to broadcast the format in Spain after Mediaset lost the rights following a long dispute with the British production company.
Nineteen years after its premiere in Antenna 3, Pasapalabra returns to the private chain. Atresmedia Television e ITV Studios have reached an agreement for the broadcast in Spain of the British format The Alphabet Game that triumphs all over the world.
The format landed in our country in 2000 with Silvia Jato as presenter, being replaced on some occasions by Constantino Romero. Later, Jaime Cantizano would take over this popular international contest that would become the most watched on television in those years.
In 2007, Telecinco took over the rights to the popular contest hosted by Christian Gálvez. After introducing some changes to the format, the private channel entered into conflict with ITV over broadcasting rights.
After several years of litigation, the Supreme Court finally ruled in early October in favor of ITV in its dispute against Mediaset España. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by Mediaset against the ruling of the Provincial Court of Madrid on the contract signed with ITV, in relation to the broadcasting rights of the program, and issued the immediate suspension of the format on Telecinco.
