Apple would have a secret team of professionals who would be working on the development of a new line of business in relation to the satellite technology in order to transmit Internet services directly to devices, bypassing mobile and wireless telephone networks.

As revealed Bloomberg, the Cupertino, California, manufacturer, would have about a dozen engineers from the aerospace, satellite and antenna design industries who could be working on the project of deploying its own satellite constellation within five years.

Following in the wake of Amazon (which plans to launch 3,000 satellites), SpaceX o OneWeb, having its own constellation would allow transmit data to users' devices potentially mitigating dependence on wireless carriers, or linking devices together without a traditional network. Apple could also be exploring satellites for more precise tracking of the location of its devices, allowing for improved maps and new features.

Bloomberg is not clear that Apple intends to develop its own satellite constellation or would simply take advantage of existing satellites to connect data with mobile devices.

In recent months, Apple has begun hiring new software and hardware experts, looking for engineers with experience designing components for communications equipment. The company has also hired other executives in aerospace and wireless data delivery.

The team is led by Michael Trela y John Fenwick, former aerospace engineers who helped run the satellite imaging company Skybox Imaging before it was sold to Google in 2014.
