Sky will close its OTT platform in Spain on September 1
The Sky streaming service launched its VoD offer in Spain just 3 years ago with 11 television channels aimed at a low-cost segment.
Just three years after its premiere in Spain in September 2017, Sky has announced that will cease the service of its OTT platform in Spain from next September 1.
The service has not managed to impact a market with the strong competition from OTT alternatives such as Movistar+, Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime, Filmin or, more recently, Disney+. The closure of Sky Spain thus joins other failed OTT projects in our country such as TotalChannel and MagineTV that were forced to cease their services due to low demand.
Sky's streaming service launched its VoD offer in Spain with 11 canales television aimed at a low-cost segment with a price of 6.99 euros.
The company has regretted "the difficult decision to cease operations in Spain. The platform will not be operational from September 1", adding "that due to the closure of the service some content may be affected in the coming days."
