The IBC 2020 International Honor for Excellence recognizes the critical role that the world's news organizations have played in continuing to inform and educate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the first time in its history, IBC will present its most precious award, the International Honor for Excellence, not to a single person or organization, but to the world's news media. The award is in recognition of the key role journalists have played in educating and informing audiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, while operating under extremely difficult conditions. The award will be presented in a livestream on Friday 11 September at 13:00 BST, with access through the IBC Showcase.

Michael Crimp, CEO of IBC, highlights that "the need for investigative journalism to separate fact from rumor has never been greater and the world's news organizations have been unerring in their efforts to ask the tough questions. They have delivered clear, accurate and timely information, keeping the public - even in isolated communities - informed about new regulations and complex science, while facing the same travel and social distancing restrictions as everyone else." “As a global forum for the broadcasting and electronic media industry, it is important that we recognize the excellence that the world's news organizations have consistently delivered during these difficult times and thank them for their dedication and service.”

The award will be presented in a special program to be presented by Kasia Madera of BBC World News. BBC Health Editor Fergus Walsh will deliver a speech as part of a specially produced video with contributions from leading news organizations including the BBC, CNN, ITV News on behalf of ITN, NBC Global News, TV Globo and Zee TV.

The program will give news organizations the opportunity to share their insights on how they are operating in times of a pandemic, shedding light on their challenges and how they have overcome them through new workflows and remote production solutions. The presentation will also be available on demand through IBC365.
