LitraStudio allows Pete Romano to shoot and illuminate nine meters deep
With a small size, LitraStudio delivers 3,000 lumens of color-accurate RGBWW output, completely wireless, and submersible up to 9 meters underwater.
Few know underwater cinematography and how to light the big blue sea, better than Pete Romano (ASC). Its unique specialty has made it sought after for most of the big movies where there is some underwater action. Throughout his 40 years of experience he has participated in more than 150 works in film and television (fiction and documentary), advertising, video clips...
Romano's company, Hydroflex, manufactures and rents housings for underwater cameras and various submersible lighting systems. In his latest works he is using the luminaire LitraStudio of the American Liter which, thanks to its design, allows it to be immersed in total safety without the need for any casing.
With a deceptively small footprint, LitraStudio delivers 3,000 lumens Color-accurate RGBWW output, completely wireless. Complete with an integrated internal battery, there are a number of operational features such as Bluetooth or DMX control, color adjustment, gel, effects… all in a robust solution that submerges up to 9 meters underwater.
According to Romano, the accessories make it viable. "The silicone diffuser is quite useful and the handle is perfect. What really convinced me was the battery." The hot-swappable, rechargeable 9000 mAh lithium-ion battery stays safe inside the light's sealed, waterproof door.
"We just did a TV show scene in a pool in Los Angeles," explains Romano, "and the electrical department loved it. It's a great run-and-gun light. That's why I added it to my rental inventory in Los Angeles, and I'll also be renting it through Cinemoves Atlanta."
