Fujifilm ships the first units of the new Premista 19-45 lens
Series like Maldita/Cursed (Netflix), Black Widow/Black Widow (Marvel) o Lovecraft Country (HBO); or short films like Adrift (with Adam Suschitzky, in charge of photography) or Street Magnate (with photo by Joe 'Jody' Williams) are some of the first productions that have used the new Premista lenses in their filming.
In a video conference in which executives of the Japanese multinational participated from Los Angeles (USA), the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan, Fujifilm has announced the shipment of the first units of the new Premista 19-45 zoom lens, specially designed for cinema cameras that support large format sensors and film.
At the same time, they have shared details of the first productions that have used the lens such as the series Maldita/Cursed (Netflix), Black Widow/Black Widow (Marvel) o Lovecraft Country (HBO); or short films like Adrift (with Adam Suschitzky, in charge of photography) or Street Magnate (with photo by Joe 'Jody' Williams).
It should be noted that this virtual event has made it clear that every day more service companies around the world have the Premista range, including the new Premista 19-45. While Premista's line-up in 2020 consisted of lenses 28-100 T2.9 y 80-250 T2.9-3.5 (46% lighter and 28% shorter than the 18-85 T2.0), in this year 2021 in addition to the new 19-45 (with a highly valued cinema look) 28-100 and 80-250 will be released.
In this way it is possible to cover a focal length of 19 to 250mmm with only three lenses with a diameter size and support for the Cooke /i technology as Zeiss eXtended Data which allows you to record lens metadata during filming.
Lens metadata provides many practical benefits on set, such as assisting focus management or improving the quality of any pre-visual effects, recorded lens metadata can be used to correct for potential lens distortion and peripheral light fall-off.
What photo directors value most
But what cinematographers value most about Premista lenses is a balance of very natural color, are high contrast, he kinematic flare control, and Ghosting surprising, some excellent black levels, an iimage without aberrations visible color distortions and a bokeh that surprises with its beauty... and all this with a minimal 'breathing' effect and a minimal distortion throughout the zoom range.
The new Premista 19-45mm lens combines precision-ground, large-diameter aspherical lens elements with Fujifilm's exclusive zoom system to deliver superior resolution by effectively correcting issues such as chromatic aberration, achieving stunning quality and clarity. Produces a 46.3mm diameter image circle, compatible with all large format sensors and films current.
This wide-angle zoom maintains a T value the ‘stop’ of 2.9 throughout its focal length range of 19mm to 45mm. This lens covers the focal lengths of five primary lenses, reducing the need to change lenses and allowing more effective shooting in less time.
The Premista 19-45mm has been designed to show a minimal distortion even when shooting at very wide focal lengths. A 13-blade diaphragm design forms a nearly perfect circular aperture that produces beautiful, natural bokeh.
Cutting-edge optical design and Fujifilm's proprietary coating process have been adopted to minimize shadows and control flare to maintain high contrast and maximize the dynamic range captured by the camera.
Fujifilm's exclusive coatings also maintain a neutral, cinematic color tone that pairs perfectly with other Premista, Premier and Cabrio lenses, and comes significantly close to many of the high-end large format prime lenses.
The lens has a function of Back Focus adjustment which allows the lens to have its focal length adjusted in the ideal place to correct changes caused by rapid changes in temperature. Additionally, the focus ring has a full 280-degree rotation and provides smooth torque to enable precise focusing. Fluorescent paint is applied to the index marks on the focus, zoom and iris rings so that these settings can be checked visibly even at night or in a dark room.
On the other hand, the Premista are a cheaper option than other ARRI, Leitz or Angenieux lenses, also standing out for its ergonomics, optical characteristics and support for metadata in virtual productions.
Other news
In addition to announcing the marketing of the new lens, Fujifilm has addressed details of the lens SK 35-700, for cinema-style multi-camera production (already being used by Fox Sports for live sports production), the montura MK-RF, and the objective Cabrio from 20-120 mm (XK6x20) PL that features a unique removable unit, making it suitable for use as a standard PL lens or as an ENG style lens. The XK6x20 also has frame-mounted focal length adjustment, macro function, and supports LDS (Lens Data System) and /i metadata.
The Spanish director of photography Juan Antonio Fernández (AEC), which has just premiered the series Three Paths (Prime Video) participated in this virtual event to share his experience with the Cabrio XK along with a Bundle Bundle Rig for the Blackmagic Design Ursa 12K camera.
