atoms release the new Ninja V Pro Kit that equips the Ninja V with greater possibilities of inputs and outputs, functionality and accessories.
Ninja V Pro Kit has been designed to bridge the gap between compact cinema and mirrorless cameras that can output Apple ProRes RAW over HDMI or SDI.
The Pro Kit also pushes the limits of these cameras, recording up to 12 bit RAW externally on the Ninja's SSD. Additionally, the Pro Kit offers the ability to covert signal crossover providing a versatile solution for monitoring and playback/review.
The Pro Kit includes the Ninja V, AtomX SDI with activation for the new RAW functionality, HDMI to SDI cross conversion, along with the DC to Dtap lock cable to power from the camera battery. It also includes the AtomX 5″ Sunhood, which offers a monitor and recording package to cover a wide range of workflows.
The compact 5″ screen 1000nit The Ninja V is designed to provide a foundation of scalability and modularity.
Combined with the module AtomX SDI and some major tweaks under the hood, the Pro Kit offers the ability to record RAW via SDI from some of the best compact cinema cameras on the market:
The incorporation of the Dual 12G SDI connectivity Extends compatibility with other cameras to provide offboard recording in 422 10-bit in edit-ready codecs or as proxy files from RED or ARRI cameras, allowing the file name and camera timecode to also be carried over SDI to the recorded files.
Of course, the Ninja V is also supports RAW over HDMI from Atomos' growing list of mirrorless cameras, including the Sony Alpha 7S III, Z CAM E-2 series, Nikon Z series, Lumix S series, Olympus OM-D EM-1X, Olympus OM-D M1 MkIII and others.
In playback mode, Ninja V provides a Lossless signal distribution with 2 x 12G SDI and 1 x HDMI 2.0 for simultaneous outputs up to 4K p60. When used in combination with the Ninja's playlist functionality, it provides a quick and convenient way to review content or display a highlight reel.
RAW inputs can also be decomposed in real time and non-standard high resolutions processed to standard SMPTE output formats. Conversion can also be applied to HLG, PQ or the 3D LUT of your choice, allowing you to view RAW or LOG content with the correct application of artistic intent.
Accurate and reliable HDR or SDR
At 1000nits, the high pixel density of the 5″ screen provides a Clear and precise monitoring for HDR and SDR. Using the AtomHDR engine, the Ninja V provides a managed color channel, matching the Gamma and Gamut of the camera at the input and selecting to view this as 709, Log with a 3DLUT or use the engine to precisely map the dynamic range of your LOG camera to the HLG or PQ HDR standards.
While other monitors may boast 2000+ nits brightness, the perceptual benefit may be limited. Simply opting for increased backlighting without considering image quality can defeat the purpose of an external monitor. The Ninja V focuses on image integrity, including the 5″ AtomX lens hood in the Pro kit to increase perceived brightness in the most difficult lighting conditions or to eliminate ambient light for increased vision in HDR. Users can simply clip the frame of the mount and insert the sunshade and can even leave the frame in place to provide greater protection to the monitor.
Finally, note that the addition of the SDI module to the Ninja V platform more than doubles its I/O functionality. To complement the inputs, HDMI or SDI connections can be cross converted, DCI cropped and 4k to HD converted for video signals to provide a bridge between equipment such as EVFs, wireless TX/RX without the need for additional converters.
