Riedel provides its latest technology to 360 coverage of the Copa América
The concept includes an innovative technological approach combining live television production, event infrastructure and race management for the world's premier sailing event.
Cutting-edge hardware and software technologies Riedel are the core of 360 degree concept for coverage of the 36th Copa America provided by production partner Circle-o. The concept includes an innovative technological approach combining live television production, event infrastructure and race management for the premier sailing event, currently taking place in the Hauraki Gulf off Auckland, New Zealand.
The new edition in which the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli boat will compete with the defender of the America's Cup, Emirates Team New Zealand, will be held starting March 6.
Riedel offers innovative camera solutions, new audio technologies and sensor technology integrated into a complete technical infrastructure. For this, it has a team of 30 professionals which manages all audio, video, communications, tracking and data transmission systems, including signals from onboard cameras, tracking boats and helicopters. Since all camera, microphone and transmission systems must support extreme marine conditions, Riedel has provided bespoke equipment on board each of the competing yachts.
To achieve this, Riedel has leveraged the combined power of the Riedel family of solution providers, from antennas and radar systems to Pidso, passing through the GPS tracking technologies of Igtimi, to the highly specialized nautical knowledge of the Riedel R&D center in Porto. In charge of the global technological concept for the America's Cup coverage, the German company also closely integrated the services and technologies of other technological partners into the extensive production infrastructure, including manufacturers such as iXblue, Sennheiser y Theirs.
In addition to on-site engineers, Riedel also provides extensive remote support from its Remote Operations Center (ROC) in Wuppertal (Germany). The ROC serves as a center of monitoring and engineering through which operators can remotely access all system settings in Auckland, including video, audio and intercom signals. In this way, the ROC team can monitor and control essential parameters of the equipment on board the racing boats, including camera control, audio settings, GPS data transmission and battery management, and help the on-site team optimize system performance.
Amazing coverage
Thomas Riedel, CEO and founder of Riedel Communications, acknowledges that "we are delighted to play such a pivotal role in this year's battle for the America's Cup, the world's oldest international sporting trophy. Decades of experience in the most demanding production environments now culminate in this very special project with very unique challenges. Together with our partner suppliers, all of whom represent the global standard in their fields, our team has created a seamless production infrastructure that is enabling Circle-o to take its live coverage to new and exciting levels. “Its stunning coverage opens up entirely new perspectives on sailing and perfectly illustrates the huge impact that technology can have on entertainment formats and the tangibility of sporting events.”
Stephen Nuttall, general director of production and media rights for the America's Cup, adds that "with Riedel's unified technological approach and industry-leading innovation at the heart of the operation of the 36th America's Cup, sailing's premier competition, we intend to offer the best possible experience to established and new fans of the sport of sailing."
