Avid bets on secure virtual post-production in the cloud with its Edit On Demand proposal
Edit On Demand puts Avid Media Composer editing software and Avid Nexis cloud storage in the hands of teams to collaborate from anywhere.
Video content creation teams in film, video and broadcast post-production now have the ability to quickly spin up secure virtual post-production environments in the cloud with the public launch of new subscription service Edit On Demand of Avid.
Formed by production implementations during the Early Access Program, in which more than 60 production companies, pod producers and broadcasters participated, Edit On Demand puts editing software Avid Media Composer and cloud storage Avid Nexus in the hands of teams to collaborate from anywhere.
Avid Edit On Demand offers a optimized user experience which is virtually indistinguishable from the on-premises edition. Post-production teams can now launch virtualized Media Composer systems with cloud workspaces with Avid Nexis in hours, not days, access their workflows from anywhere, and quickly close them when projects are complete.
Primeras experiencias
Tim Claman, senior vice president and general manager of video, post-production and storage solutions at Avid, highlights that "the operational disruption caused by the pandemic over the past year has accelerated interest in new ways of working, including cloud-based workflows. The exciting thing about Edit On Demand is that it offers the editing experience and workflow that our customers expect on-premises, even if it is hosted entirely in the cloud."
“We've worked closely with our customers during the development of Edit On Demand to ensure it's quick and easy to get up and running, load your sources, and enjoy Avid's proven collaborative editing workflow from anywhere in the world, all in a matter of hours,” he adds.
One of the professionals who has had the opportunity to test Avid's new solution is Ken Burnett, CTO of Gorilla TV. "Edit On Demand had the responsiveness, power and flexibility needed for our teams to edit from anywhere. It worked so well that our teams didn't even know Avid NEXIS storage was in the cloud. They thought they were remotely accessing our on-premises systems," he stressed.
Chris Bove, editor-in-chief of PBS Documentaries, adds, "As for Avid Edit On Demand's interface, it's almost identical to working on-premises. Users can barely tell the difference between their local Media Composer client or one running virtually. It's that good."
