The Cannes Film Festival hosts the screening of six Spanish films
The 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, in which a total of six Spanish films will be screened: three feature films and three shorts.
The films will participate in different parallel sections of the event that opens this Wednesday, July 7. In this way, Freedom of Clara Roquet will compete in Critics' Week; Buñuel, a surrealist filmmaker of Javier Espada and the restored version of The Way of Ana Mariscal, at Cannes Classics; the short films Sycoraz of Lois Patiño y Matias Pineiro, y The Windshield Wiper of Alberto Mielgo, in the Directors' Fortnight; and finally The fall of the Swift, of Gonzalo Quincones, in Cinéfondation.
On the other hand, Film Market, a film market that brings together distributors, sales agents, producers and executives from the audiovisual sector, will once again host the official Spanish pavilion 'Cinema from Spain', organized by ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones together with the ICAA. In parallel to the in-person event, a homonymous virtual pavilion will be developed with the possibility for companies to present their new products to accredited participants. Likewise, an online screening room exclusively dedicated to Spanish cinema will host 23 screenings in 6 days.
Support for emerging talent
Emerging Spanish talent will also be present at Cannes. Thanks to the '2cool4school Collection' initiative, nine short films from different film schools will be present at the Short Film Corner to make visible the youngest talent in our country. The Focus Copro and Focus Script programs of the Short Film Corner will also have the presence of Spanish professionals.
Additionally, Clara Nieto will participate in the 'Producers on the Move' program, an initiative that aims to connect young and entrepreneurial European producers with potential co-production partners. In addition, the ICAA collaborates with the Fantastic 7 program and the presence in Cannes of Fernando González and Juan Barquín, producers of the selected Spanish project, The passenger.
