Dave Eringa reinforces his studio with the Genelec 8351B monitors from the “The Ones” series
British engineer and producer Dave Eringa has acquired a pair of smart three-way active monitors Genelec 8351B, belonging to the series The Ones.
Eringa, who has trusted Genelec During the last two decades of his career, he had his first contact with the 8351B during a mixing session at Metropolis studios. As he relates: "I was making an album with Roger Daltrey at Metropolis studios, with mixes done by Michael Brauer, and they had just received the new Genelecs. When we had the mix ready and we put it in them and turned up the volume, I said, 'Oh my God, they sound incredibly good!' and that's what made me start thinking that I had to do this. I thought I knew what to expect, but when I heard them, I thought, “This is something totally different, this is brilliant.” I could hear everything so accurately and clearly, and the low end was so solid. From the first listen I liked it a lot.”
After this experience, Eringa decided to install it in her studio Electric Daveyland. For this, an engineer Genelec, Andy Bensley, traveled to the studio to correctly configure the equipment using the calibration software GLM. After moving some elements of the room that could affect the audio dynamics, the monitors were ready to be used.
Quick adaptation
Eringa, who had been using the same monitors for two decades, doubted the ease of the transition to his new equipment. However, as he says, he was pleasantly surprised: "Once I got used to them, a week later, I started mixing 50% faster. It was incredible."
Although the engineer enjoys the new sound of the The Ones of Genelec, especially values how it streamlines his daily activity: “The main thing for me is that they have made my work exponentially easier.”
