The jury of the Ministry of Culture and Sports has unanimously chosen this year to recognize Radiotelevisión Canaria with the National Television Award for "the work of the technical and human teams in the treatment of the volcanic crisis in La Palma through proximity journalism and the most innovative audiovisual techniques."

The National Television Award rewards meritorious work in the Spanish television field demonstrated through a work broadcast during 2021 or a particular contribution for its creativity.

In duly motivated cases it may be granted in recognition of a complete professional career. With this Award, the Ministry recognizes television as an essential tool for the dissemination of culture, as well as its connection with the development and dissemination of cultural industries.

They have acted as members Beatriz Navas Valdes, general director of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA); Miriam Lorenzo Fernandez, advisory member of the cabinet of the Minister of Culture and Sports; José Quílez Left, vice president of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences; Kepa Pagazaurtundúa Alberte, production director of Corporación Radio e Televisión de Galicia (CRTVG); Borja Teran, journalist specialized in television criticism; Gregorio Antonio Muro Arriet, designated by Karlos Arguiñano, awarded in the previous edition and Ana Isabel Palacios Gil, specialist in audiovisual media and research from a gender perspective.

Oscar Fernandez production director of Televisión Canaria transferred, for the first time, the intrahistory of news coverage, which was also recognized by the Ondas Awards 2021 as the “Best broadcast by non-national stations or chains”.
