India Today - LiveU - LU800 - 5G

The LU800 backpack LiveU, compatible with 5G technology, joins the extensive fleet of broadcast solutions of India Today.

It is not the first time that India Today, India's leading news network, relies on solutions from LiveU. A long-time client of the firm, its fleet includes dozens of backpacks LU600 and now LU800, as well as more than 50 LU-Smart mobile applications and production tools IFB. LiveU's local partner, Lamhas Satellite Services, is responsible for providing support to the broadcaster “24 hours a day.”

One of the novelties that LU800 of LiveU will give India Today's workflow the ability to send up to four fully synchronized streams in high resolution (1080p50/60, 10-bit HDR) from a single unit to any remote production center, whether physical or cloud-based. The solution offers maximum reliability and resistance, taking advantage of the IP linking of up to 14 connections (cellular, LAN and WiFi).

The contents captured by the backpacks, which will benefit at the end of the year from the possibilities of 5G, are transmitted directly to the studies and writing of India Today, often using remote production workflows (REMI).

India Today's first steps with the LU800

Mrityunjoy Pal, Associate Vice President of Broadcast at India Today, you have already been able to test the backpack LU800, which has given them significant robustness and performance at a recent event: "We had two sources coming to the station from a single unit and our English and Hindi channels had the flexibility to choose different frames instead of playing the same frame on each channel. The LU800 played a fundamental role in offering attractive coverage of the recent elections, as well as other daily news and events. "

At the same time, Pal comments that his international reporters also benefit daily from the backpacks of LiveU and the application LU-Smart to stream high-quality video to your central newsrooms: "The stability of the live streams is solid, and the LiveU Central management platform makes it easy to manage multiple devices. The local support provided by Lamhas and LiveU is also excellent; we always feel like we are in good hands, whatever the circumstances of the live event coverage."

Finally, Ranjit Bhatti, senior director of LiveU in the south of Asia, considers it “fantastic” to see how “our LU800 is used in an innovative and cost-effective way to broadcast live to millions of viewers on India Today, one of the most popular television networks in India.”
