Magdalena Salazar, awarded with the COIT Pioneras_IT 2022 Award

After deliberations and the subsequent casting of votes, the jury of the COIT (Official College of Telecommunications Engineers) has decided to recognize the academic and research merits of Magdalena Salazar Palma with the Pioneras_IT Award.

This is the third edition of the award promoted by the COIT Women's IT Group, whose objective is to make visible the contributions and achievements that have been carried out in society thanks to the presence of female talent in the technological field and, in particular, in telecommunications.

The election of Magdalena Salazar has been unanimous, both in the vote of the members and that of the jury, which is made up of Carmen Alsina (CEOE), Dora Bandín (SECOT), Antonio Bengoa (Telefónica España); Anna Bufi (Cellnex Spain); Víctor Calvo-Sotelo (Digitales), Yolanda Carrasco (Nokia Spain), Blanca Ceña (Vantage Towers Spain), Nuria Chinchilla (IESE), Antonio Colino (Royal Academy of Engineering), Francisco Hortigüela (AMETIC), Ana María Molina (Hispasat) and Luz Usamentiaga (Orange Spain).

He Pioneras_IT 2020 Award fell on Maria Jesus Prieto Lafargue, the first woman to receive it, whose professional development has been marked by lead technological transformation processes, legislative and business in the Information and Communications Technologies sector.

In the 2021 edition, Inmaculada Sánchez Ramos won the award by demonstrating great adaptability towards new technical and professional approaches in a society so marked by technology. Furthermore, his technical, social and informative career had a great weight in the jury's decision.

An incontestable trajectory

Magdalena Salazar Palma she is a doctor Telecommunications Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, where she was a professor in the Department of Signals, Systems and Radiocommunications of the ETSI Telecommunications. She has been a professor, director of the Department of Signal Theory and Communications at the Carlos III University of Madrid and co-director of the Radiofrequency, Electromagnetism, Microwaves and Antennas Research Group of said department.

The winner is the author or co-author of a total of 752 posts, among them 9 scientific books, 30 contributions to books, 14 teaching books, 121 articles in scientific journals and 405 contributions to international conferences. It has a h-index of 36, con more than 6,320 quotes from other authors, according to Google Scholar. She has participated as principal investigator or researcher in a total of 97 research projects (47) and contracts (50) funded by public institutions and companies in Spain, Europe and the United States. He has given numerous invited presentations at conferences, seminars, and workshops.

Likewise, Magdalena Salazar Palma has received two individual research awards, in addition to being Honorary Doctor Case from Aalto University, Finland. Another of her most notable milestones is having served since 1989 as a volunteer in a hundred positions from the IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers). This entire trajectory makes it, as COIT emphasizes, a “professional reference in Telecommunications Engineering and can promote technological vocations in women.”
