BBC Studios - Matrox - GlobalM Elizabeth II Elizabeth II

The SRT cloud distribution platform GlobalM, supported by encoders Matrox, allowed BBC Studios distribute the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II worldwide.

The BBC televised the funeral throughout the United Kingdom via its television network BBC One. However, the BBC studios also needed a media distribution workflow cloud-based to deliver live broadcasts to their international rights holders with links by limited or non-existent satellites. Already familiar with GlobalM y Matrox Video, BBC studios used the network GlobalM and encoder technologies Matrox Monarch EDGE to launch a workflow same-day, cost-effective IP-based distribution.”

The workflow was structured around the Monarch EDGE multichannel encoders, which encoded the national and international signals of high quality and low latency in the GlobalM's SRT streaming platform. Then the network GlobalM orchestration distributed y streamed SRT-enabled sources (including backup and redundant routes) to the international rights holders from around the world, while the main control monitored all broadcasts in real time with the GlobalM web control panel. During the 12 hours of broadcast, the GlobalM network did not lose “a single packet” for a smooth SRT distribution experience, notes Matrox itself.

Paul Calleja, chief technology officer and co-founder of GlobalM, said he was honored to have been part of “one of the biggest events in the history of broadcasting”, as well as positively valued the technological deployment for the event: “The high-quality, low-latency encoding support of Matrox Monarch EDGE on GlobalM's private IP backbone network provided the BBC studios with complete stability and quality for each broadcast, guaranteeing international rights holders near and far exceptional coverage of the event.”

On the other hand, Francesco Scartozzi, vice president of sales and business development for the Matrox Video BMG area, takes the opportunity to highlight the stability of current cloud services: “Matrox Video has been working closely with GlobalM so that clients like the BBC can benefit from rapidly deployable cloud-native networks that are a fraction of the cost of double-hop satellite delivery models, but with the same broadcast quality and customer viewing experience.”
