The San Sebastián Festival is already the fourth most important cultural initiative in Spain

He Observatorio de la Cultura de la Fundación Contemporánea en su estudio sobre el panorama cultural de España en 2022 posiciona al San Sebastian Film Festival como el cuarto acontecimiento cultural más importante del pasado año.

El Festival de San Sebastián ocupa la cuarta posición en un ranking encabezado por el Museo del Prado, el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía y el Museo Thyssen–Bornemisza. El Museo Guggenheim Bilbao y el Teatro Real se sitúan en el quinto y sexto puesto, respectivamente. Asimismo, el Festival de San Sebastián ha sido escogida como “insignia cultural” del País Vasco, which recognizes “the most outstanding proposal” according to the professionals of this community.

Furthermore, the Basque Country is the third most valued community for “the quality and innovation of its cultural offer”, behind Madrid and Catalonia. San Sebastián is the seventh most valued city for its quality and cultural innovation, and the first on the list with less than 300,000 inhabitants.

The Culture Observatory is an instrument to take the pulse of the sector, analyze trends, promote debate and identify shortcomings and opportunities. Since 2009, it has carried out an annual consultation to detect the most notable cultural institutions and events of the year. In this last 405 people participated in the questionnaire, of which 52.8% work in a public cultural organization, 30.4% in a private cultural organization and 16.8% are independent professionals in the sector.
