ARRI expands the versatility of the Alexa 35 and Mini LF with the CCM-1 monitor
The new CCM-1 camera control monitor from ARRI, intended for the Alexa 35 and Alexa Mini LF, expands the possibilities of operators working with both capture solutions in highly demanding environments.
ARRI has designed the new CCM-1 in response to requests from camera operators who prefer to judge framing and exposure with an on-board monitor rather than a viewfinder. Developed by ARRI in collaboration with SmallHD (To be seen), the brand's new solution provides a control interface, menu and alternative image to the MVF-2 viewer, which you can completely replace or work alongside.
The CCM-1 displays a bright, high-contrast HD image on its screen LCD IPS 7″ that is easily visible in daylight from a wide range of viewing angles. Like the MVF-2, it connects via the camera's VF connector and provides an image that faithfully conveys the precision of ARRI color management. Some of the applications that will be especially appreciated by users is the ability to make zoom to check focus more precisely, or the always helpful false color tool.
When using the camera's VF connector, the CCM-1 leaves both outputs free SDI for other uses. Supports VF cables up to 10m in length, providing flexibility of operation in tight spaces, cranes, dollies and car platforms. Alternatively, the CCM-1 can be connected via SDI as a normal on-board monitor, allowing the application of ALF-2 and ALF-4 aspect files, full access to the SmallHD toolset and use with third-party cameras. Multiple other connection options facilitate different camera configurations and use cases.
CCM-1: versatility and customization
All functions of the new ARRI CCM-1 monitor can be adjusted via the touch screen or via buttons and a joystick located on one side of the monitor and can be operated with one hand, leaving the other free. The power and back buttons have unique tactile indicators that make them easy to find without looking, or with gloves on, while the dedicated menu button provides quick access to the familiar MVF-2 menu. Four user buttons allow for custom settings, and a lock slider disables the touch screen and all buttons, preventing accidental activation of functions.
On the other hand, the interactive status overlays They allow settings to be adjusted without interrupting the live view, and a new playback screen can be accessed via the menu or by assigning it to a user button. The large clip list on the playback screen includes metadata display and remains visible during playback, improving the user experience for smaller teams that rely on the CCM-1 to review shots.
The CCM-1 comes with a parasol that fits the monitor like a smartphone protective case, eliminating the need for velcro or straps and with the MAC-1 monitor arm two-axis to quickly position the CCM-1 without affecting the horizon in relation to the camera. ARRI has announced the immediate availability of this solution, which will be compatible with the upcoming ALEXA 35 SUP 1.2 and ALEXA Mini LF SUP 7.3 software update packages.
