Alejandro Amenábar, Lucentum Prize at the 20th Alicante Film Festival
He 20th Alicante International Film Festival wanted to honor the figure of director Alejandro Amenábar (‘Tesis’, ‘Open your eyes’, ‘Mar Adentro’, ‘While the war lasts’…) with the Lucentum Award.
Amenábar receives the recognition in the context of the twentieth anniversary of out to sea, an anniversary that has been used to recognize the career of the Spanish-Chilean director and expand the Alicante festival's programming with a cycle dedicated to his figure.
At an event held in the City of Light in Alicante, Amenábar thanked the organization for the award and announced that he and his team are working "to bring the filming of the next film to the Valencian Community, specifically to the area of Alicante with which I have a connection, since my family lives here. I hope to be filming within approximately a year."
Regarding the award, Alejandro Amenábar has stated that "it is an honor to be here in the City of Light within the framework of the Alicante Festival. It has been years since I visited these studios and I have always had the thorn in my side of doing something here. I feel strange receiving an award that is for a career when I look back I don't have that many films either, but I have been doing this for 25 years and I am very grateful for this recognition."
The director of the Alicante Film Festival, Vicente Seva, thanked Alejandro for his visit, "because we have been trying for many years and it is a gift for the 20th anniversary, we will always be very grateful, it is a dream come true and today I collect the Lucentum Award." For its part, Anthony Rodes He has declared that it is an honor that an exponent of Spanish cinema visits the studios, since they are now being reborn as a driving force in the industry and it is an enhancement.
Later, at the award ceremony, the director has expressed: "I am very linked to this land, one of my first awards when I made short films was given to me in Elche and this encouraged me to continue. Later my parents came to live in Santa Pola. I have resisted collecting this award, because I did not want to see that I had so much career, but this is a cycle that is opening, we want to shoot the next feature film in the Valencian Community. And my mother will be able to see this film and will be able to come to the filming here in Alicante. Thank you." At the gala, the Alicante Film Festival also recognized the actors' careers Karra Elejalde and Nathalie Poza.
