The Mediapro Studio Labs awards eight projects in its second edition
The ideas laboratory created to discover new audiovisual talent, The Mediapro Studio Labs, chooses eight projects among the 1,400 projects received to be developed with the support of the creators of The Mediapro Studio.
The very high level of the proposals received, as well as their originality, have led to an increase in the number of those selected.
The three winning projects of this edition are The carnations of Rebeca Serrada and Diego Zúñiga; road to heaven of Martina Hache & Sara Étienne, y Bloody Tapes of Bloody Girls (Aida Méndez and Elena Lombao) and Carlos J. Marín. Three proposals that stand out for the alternative perspectives of their authors and the innovative narrative approach to their stories.
Given the level of creativity collected in this second edition, The Mediapro Studio Labs has opened the doors to five other finalist projects that will also be developed with the Studio: Stella Club of Teresa Carril, The charm of Mario Monzó, Bianca Franceza and Olga Garriga, Centenary sycalyptic entertainment of Dario Pena, Food Hall of Julen Solaun, y The rooms of of Osama Chami.
Andreu Buenafuente y Clara Roquet directors of the second edition, together with Maya Maidagan, head of LABS, and the team of creators at The Mediapro Studio have chosen these eight projects among all the proposals received, in a call with record participation and almost 1,400 proposals arrivals from all areas, including content for Twitch, TikTok or podcasts, as well as traditional formats such as feature films or series.
“Labs was born from the Studio's vocation to open its doors to creators from very different disciplines, identify emerging talent and bet on a new generation that will set audiovisual trends in the coming years,” he said. Thick, CEO of The Mediapro Studio. “The number of proposals received shows the interest generated by this edition directed by Clara Roquet and Andreu Buenafuente, whose involvement has been fundamental throughout the entire training and selection process.”
The final phase of development, in which scriptwriters, showrunners and executive producers from The Mediapro Studio will be involved, will end with the presentation of the projects to the main networks and platforms of the audiovisual panorama. A path that, in the first edition of Labs, began Romance, the new Spanish Original series from Prime Video that was born from an idea that emerged in this laboratory. Directed by Tomas Pena (Manson) and written by Fernando Navarro, is currently in post-production.
Clara Roquet comments on her experience as co-director: "I find the Labs a great tool as a search engine for creative talent, as demonstrated by the great reception it has had and, thanks to which, we have received very diverse projects. I want to highlight the level of involvement of the STUDIO, which accompanies the authors at all times in the development of their new ideas."
For its part, Andreu Buenafuente, another of the directors along with Roquet and Maidagan, comments that "it gives me great pleasure to discover young talent and see how it grows and multiplies at my side. It is not something imposed, it is something that arises in me naturally. In this sense, the highly organized way of working at LABS entails an acceleration of the search processes that is very necessary."
