The Mediapro Studio and 3Cat film 'El mal', an eight-episode thriller based on real events
Marta Pahissa directs 'El mal (Quiet)', an eight-episode thriller produced by The Mediapro Studio in co-production with 3Cat (CCMA) whose filming takes place in different locations in Barcelona.
Lluís Arcarazo is the creator of this fiction (set in the Barcelona of confinement and based on a true story) that narrates the investigation to find a serial killer who has chosen as his victims “the weakest link in society”: the homeless. In his own words: "The series is a story that has many layers. It is about a police investigation, but it goes far beyond what goes through the mind of a psychopath. The combination of being able to show a Barcelona, that of confinement, as we have never seen before with an element as extreme as a murderer of people who cannot be confined is the great attraction of 'El Mal.' For Marta Pahissa, director of the eight episodes that make up the story, "the great challenge of the series is to portray an empty, silent and a little apocalyptic Barcelona and at the same time it is also the strong point of the series."
the evil, which will premiere in TV3 and the platform 3Cat, to later proceed to the international sale of the project, is created and written by Lluís Arcarazo, who is the main screenwriter of all the episodes of the series, with the collaboration of screenwriters Guillermo Cisneros and María Jaen. Arcarazo has previously worked with The Mediapro Studio in the movie Salvador (Puig Antich) and in the series night i day, directed by Oriol Paulo, which was a success in territories such as Australia, Italy, Brazil, the United States, Sweden and the United Kingdom, among others.
He argument of the evil part of a true story. At the end of April 2020, in the midst of confinement due to COVID-19, the authorities arrested a man accused of murdering several homeless people one after another on the streets of Barcelona. Always following the same patterns: always while they were sleeping and always with extreme brutality. With this approach, and in that context of an empty and confined city, Arcarazo develops the idea of the series, with the double meaning of both evil and a virus that infects its victims.
David Verdaguer (winner of two Goya awards for They know The One y Summer 1993) and Angela Cervantes (twice nominated for the Goya awards for The Maternal y Chavalas), are the protagonists of this series, whose filming is taking place these days in different locations in Barcelona. Also notable in the cast are Alex Brendemull (Nominated for the Goya for Creature) y Melina Matthews (Iron Hand) as well as the young Roger Guitart y Victoria Kantch.
