Burano and Verona, the two impact novelties from Sony at IBC 2023

Héctor Sierra, South Europe Sales Head y Álvaro Ortiz, Solutions Specialist, plantean en esta videoentrevista las principales novedades de Sony en IBC 2023 donde destacaron la nueva cámara cinematográfica Burano, los paneles para producción virtual Verona y los equipos Networked Live.

La nueva cámara cinematográfica Burano llega para complementar la Venice 2 al compartir su sensor, al tiempo que ofrece una versatility which allows it to be handled by a single operator to meet reduced taxiing requirements.

Presented as “the world's first digital cinema camera with PL mount” that incorporates image stabilization in its body, it does not dispense with technical characteristics top level: sensor Full Frame de 8,6K; Dual basic ISO of 800 and 3200; ability to roll Super 35 Full Frame; encoding up to 8K with XAVC; decompression function for anamorphic lenses with up to 8K at 30 frames per second, 6K at 60 frames per second or 4K at 120 frames per second; various logging modes, including S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut.Cine, or two CFexpress type B memory card slots among your recording options. All this, in body compact and light, approximately 32 mm shorter and 1.4 kg lighter than the Venice 2 camera.

Burano también incluye mejoras de diseño basadas en los comentarios de la comunidad de cineastas. Por ejemplo, todos los botones de los menús están situados en el lado del operador de la cámara. Además, se han colocado luces Tally en tres ubicaciones para que el personal circundante pueda comprobar más fácilmente el estado de la grabación. El monitor LCD multifunción de 3,5 pulgadas puede utilizarse como visor para el enfoque táctil o el control de menús. La cámara Burano también viene equipada con una robusta empuñadura en T opcional, un brazo para el visor, dos entradas de audio XLR de 3 pines y un terminal para auriculares (mini toma estéreo), muy práctico para trabajar en solitario.

Producción virtual con Verona

La nueva familia de paneles Verona está diseñada para abordar las necesidades y desafíos de los entornos de producción virtual, destaca por ofrecer tonos negros profundos con bajo nivel de deslumbramiento reduciendo así la contrast difference between the image projected on the monitor and the actors in front of it on the set.

The Verona achieve a shine of 1500 cd/m2 and a range of colors that covers more than DCI-P3 at 97%. Likewise, they use high-performance LED driver integrated circuits, which allow refresh rate up to 7680 Hz to greatly reduce camera scan line defects. Both models, ZRD-VP15EB/23EB and ZRD-VP15EM/23EM, are available with a pixel pitch of P1.56mm and P2.31mm. They are also compatible with the most used controllers in the industry: the ZRD-VP15EB/23EB is powered by Brompton Technology's Tessera SX40 processor, while the ZRD-VP15EM/23EM uses Megapixel's Helios processing platform.

Networked Live

El ecosistema Networked Live dedicado a la producción remota y distribuida es otra de las grandes apuestas de Sony. La compañía presentó durante IBC 2023 la unidad de producción remota CBK-RPU7, designed to transport high-quality video over 5G networks, and the software mixer M2L-X, which can be used both on-premises and in the cloud.

The new remote production unit, the CBK-RPU7, features Sony's ultra-low latency HEVC codec. The design of this new unit allows you fit on portable cameras such as camcorders (for example, using the V-hook battery holder and connecting via SDI). The device has been specifically designed to be used in 5G networks (in conjunction with a modem), but is also suitable for wired networks with limited bandwidth.

On the other hand, the M2L-X it's a software mixer which extends the platform and interface established in Sony's current cloud mixer system, the M2 Live. Enabling video and audio mixing, graphics insertion and other remote production functions, the M2L-X is presented as a device that can be used as standalone software in a virtual private cloud or on-premise. Likewise, its “open interface” allows it to be integrated with existing live production systems to multiply its possibilities.

Otras soluciones Networked Live que Sony demostró en IBC 2023 son la plataforma de contenido multimedia VideoIPath of Nevion; he NXL-ME80, and media edge processor for WAN transport; the expandable production mixer MLS-X1, or the camera control network adapter CNA-2. Similarly, Sony has presented at IBC three new software licenses (HZC-RCPCN2, HZC-GWCN2 and HZC-MSUCN2) installable on the CNA-2 to configure and control several studio cameras remotely on the network.
