Pedro Piqueras - Television Academy - Jesus Hermida Award

The Council of the Television Academy ha concedido a Pedro Piqueras el Premio Jesús Hermida, máximo galardón de la Academia que reconoce trayectorias estrechamente ligadas a la televisión.

Pedro Piqueras, cuya trayectoria ha estado ligada estrechamente a Telecinco desde hace casi dos décadas, ha sido reconocido por unanimidad con el premio Jesus Hermida, tal y como se ha acordado en una reunión de la Television Academy celebrada en la Fundación Casa de México en España. El periodista y comunicador recibirá el galardón en el marco de los Iris Awards, que se entregarán el próximo 16 de enero en el Gran Teatro Caixabank Príncipe Pío de Madrid.

Throughout his professional career, Piqueras has been distinguished with prestigious awards, among which stand out an Ondas Award, three Golden Antennas, the Gold Medal of Castilla-La Mancha, the Award for Best Professional Career from the International Press Club, the First Amendment Award from the Spanish Eisenhower Fellowship Association and the Vanity Fair Award for Journalist of the Year 2022, among others.

In previous calls this award, previously called A whole life, has been given to important figures in the television world such as Jesús Hermida, Miguel de la Quadra Salcedo, Antonio Mercero, Chicho Ibáñez Serrador, Josefina Molina, Matías Prats Sr., José de las Casas, Pedro Amalio López, Emilio Aragón “Miliki”, Rosa María Calaf, Rosa María Mateo, Concha Velasco, José Ángel de la Casa, José María Íñigo, Laura Valenzuela, María Teresa Campos, Mayra Gómez Kemp, Fernando García de la Vega, Paloma Gómez Borrero, Xavier Sardá, Ana Blanco, Matías Prats, Manuel Campo Vidal and José Luis Balbín. In its last edition, the Academy recognized journalist Mercedes Milá with the Jesús Hermida Lifetime Achievement Award.

Pedro Piqueras' career

Pedro Piqueras He is one of the most recognized journalists in the country, with an extensive career in radio and television. Graduated in Journalism from the Complutense University, he began working in 1977 at Radio Exterior de España. Later it goes to RNE, where he directs the weekend news and 24-hour news. In 1986 he began directing and presenting the two o'clock news programs on RNE-Radio 1 and, two years later, he took charge of the second edition of the News on TVE.

In 1993 he joined Antenna 3 to present and direct the 9:00 p.m. News. He left that position in September 1996 to take charge of public mirror. In October 2004, the debate program premiered on La 2. Approach. Until the 2001/02 season he was in charge of hosting Noticias Fin de Semana on Antena 3 TV, where he premiered in September 2002, and the morning magazine In full light. In the 2002 and 2003 season, and on the same network, he hosts the space Seven days, seven nights.

He was director of National Radio of Spain from May 2004 to January 2006, date on which he was appointed Telecinco News Director and went on to present the network's prime time news program until today. In 2016, he was one of the moderators of the Four-Way Debate organized by the Television Academy between the candidates for the presidency of the Government Mariano Rajoy, Pedro Sánchez, Pablo Iglesias and Albert Rivera.
