The WUC launches three television studios with a workflow based on Blackmagic
The teams of Blackmagic are the protagonists of the workflow of the three new television studios of the WUC Multimedia Convergence Center, the Wuhan University of Communications (China).
These three studies, which serve as hands-on training platforms for various classrooms and production spaces, include a wide variety of Blackmagic Design solutions, such as seven cameras Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2; a mixer ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K; of models ATEM Constellation 8K; two teams ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel 10; a device ATEM Camera Control Panel; different units Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter y Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter; engravers HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro, and various devices Teranex Mini, Micro Converter, Teranex AV and Teranex Express.
The three sets can operate independently, allowing three different programs to be produced simultaneously, or they can be combined into a more complex transmission system. For signal distribution, two mixers are used ATEM Constellation 8K installed in news and magazine studios, in order to take advantage of the 40×24 12G SDI inputs and outputs in multiple programs and formats. Likewise, the four 12G SDI outputs simultaneous display on each ATEM Constellation 8K device are linked to four 4K televisions, in order to monitor the various sources.
Cheng Meng, professor at the WUC teaching center and practical skills laboratory, highly values the Blackmagic roster in their new facility: "I was extremely surprised by the variety, performance and flexibility of Blackmagic Design devices in system design and implementation. Whether for live production or post-production, the company offers products for all types of dynamics. Each includes a wide range of tools, reducing the need for external devices. This not only simplifies the design and maintenance of the entire system, but also reduces overall expense."
ATEM and connectivity in the new WUC studies
Control via an Ethernet network of the ATEM mixers It allows you to simplify the distribution of signals and the supervision of the contents of the three studios. WUC staff, located in the control center, have the ability to manage the signals from the cameras in any of the studios thanks to the ATEM Software Control program, which eliminates the need to go down to the first floor.
Wang Wei, technical director of Wuhan Vijita Technology (project integrator company), highlights the benefits of ATEM mixers for backup and restore settings from the program: "This is especially favorable in educational environments, where different students and teachers interact with the devices. The ability of the studio manager to restore the original configuration very quickly guarantees consistent and easy operation of the equipment."
When a camera is connected URSA Broadcast G2, equipped with a Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter device, to the studio system via an SMPTE cable, the equipment Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter located in the control room is responsible for making all the necessary conversions between the camera and the mixer. This not only allows all images and audio to be transmitted, but also provides the ability to control the camera and even power it, all with a single SMPTE cable.
DaVinci Solves in the WUC
In each control room a workstation exclusively for DaVinci Resolve Studio with a card DeckLink 8K Pro. This space facilitates direct capture of signals for centralized storage, allowing you to edit, grade, create graphics, generate visual effects and post-produce audio in DaVinci Resolve Studio. Likewise, it is also possible to access the saved resources from the different classrooms distributed throughout the institution, which are connected through high speed 10G fiber optic cablesdad.
In this way, Resolve Studio is not only used for image capture and post-production, but also to address challenges in terms of chromatic agreement between different cameras of different brands"What's worth highlighting is the ability to import conversion tables (LUTs) offered by the URSA Broadcast G2 model. We can create custom LUTs in DaVinci Resolve, in order to replicate the visual styles of other units, and then import them from the camera. In this way, we ensure color consistency at all angles, which has been adopted by various clients, such as Wuhan TV," explains Wei.
Because all studios allow productions to be made in HDR 4K, waveform monitors were also used HDR de DaVinci Resolve Studio to carry out technical supervision of the material.
