Television production is consolidated in Spain in 2023 marked by the fall of the US market.
The evolution of television production in 2023 has been analyzed in depth in the latest study by GECA, an audiovisual consultancy that has x-rayed the state of the market worldwide.
Spain has confirmed its stability in the field of television fiction with a total of 53 premieres, surpassing the 50 in 2022 and the 36 in the turbulent and pandemic 2021. The drama remains a leader, dramedias increase and comedies and miniseries experience a slight decrease.
The GECA study also stands out for collecting the channels on which television fictions have premiered. Contrast the Spanish case with the British one, since 42 of the Spanish fictions have been released directly on platforms, compared to 7 that have taken their first steps in the linear and 4 that have made the leap to the internet. United Kingdom, for its part, has released only 19 fictions in the SVOD field compared to 56 via linear channels. The Spanish model is similar to the American one: 72% of his fictions have reached platforms directly. In Mexico, Brazil and Argentina There is also a clear preference for the premiere on SVOD platforms, with Colombia betting on an equitable distribution and Chile demonstrating that the first option continues to be linear television.
