Digico's Quantum consoles provide audio to the 'Sheng Sheng Bu Xi' musical contest

Jointly organized by China and Hong Kong, the music competition 'Sheng Sheng Bu Xi (Endless Melody)', also known as 'Infinity and Beyond' and co-produced by Mango TV (the Hunan platform, and TVB) uses consoles Digico like Quantum 5 and Quantum 7.

The first season focused on various eras in Hong Kong's rich pop music history. It showcased the greatness of the 20th century Hong Kong music scene through adaptation and joint performance, providing a platform for collaboration between musicians from mainland China and Hong Kong.

The second season transported audiences through the songs of Taiwan's golden era, promoting cross-strait musical and cultural exchanges while evoking nostalgic memories of Taiwanese music.

The grand theme of “Chinese music” was explored in the third season, in which the songs selected had to meet specific criteria, such as representing the highest musical standards of their time, having broad influence, and standing the test of time.

Multichannel capability

The console Quantum 5 was chosen for the front of house for his multichannel capability and its high number of entries.

He Biao, sound engineer for the show, notes that the console was the perfect choice to meet the demands of the large-scale production: “The Quantum 5 was instrumental in integrating all the elements of the varied onstage ensemble, which included a 24-piece orchestra, an electroacoustic band, a percussion group and individual artists,” he says. "Three SD Racks were included in the optical loop. As this was a recorded show, six MADI sets were used for main and backup recording, a key factor that contributed to the choice of the Quantum 5."

The show had a high number of IEM inputs and monitor mixer outputs personal and required almost 60 Aux channels. The console also streamlined the show's workflow and simplified setup for visiting engineers, as layers could be dedicated to individual artists.
