Renegade Returns to Avid Media Composer to Streamline the Completion of Its Animation Projects
Avid Media Composer stands as a fundamental part of the pipeline of the renowned Californian animation production company Renegade ('Tom and Jerry', 'The Mr. Men Show'), which needed a solution that would allow it to manage large volumes of audiovisual assets, as well as have collaborative tools to streamline its workflows.
Michael D'Ambrosio, editor-in-chief of Renegade, has been part of the animation production company since 2005. Your relationship with Avid It dates back to the early 1990s, when he honed his editing skills with Media Suite Pro.
After experimenting with other software and finding it increasingly frustrating, D'Ambrosio has led the return of Renegade to Media Composer, which has been boosted by the latest system improvements. "I've been using the new interface for a while. The folder structure, the ability to customize the size of folders and dock them, is a brilliant improvement. I encourage everyone who is still using the old floating design to try it out. It is much more effective," says the manager.
D'Ambrosio also highlights the importance of the Effects Module for the Episodic Animation ("Reuse is critical in episodic animation. You have to be able to pick up items from other programs to complete the narrative"), or the Symphony, especially for the Color Correction: "Sometimes we get shots where the background is too close to the foreground, which makes the character disappear. Symphony allows me to separate them and make the character seem more vibrant. It is essential and saves us a lot of time and money."
As technology evolves, D'Ambrosio also explores the potential of AI in your workflow to improve productivity. In this regard, he appreciates Avid's approach, emphasizing that it is support, not replacement: "We are not trying to eliminate the human being, but to help the end user. That's a critical difference between generative AI and AI as a productivity tool."
In parallel, the Renegade ecosystem has decided to address a transition to the audiovisual production storage solution Avid Nexis, which has allowed the studio to manage Higher resolutions and More complex projects, as evidenced by his work in Tom and Jerry or Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.
