Avid Pro Tools

Avid updates its Pro Tools software that introduces track markers, expanded immersive mixing capabilities, and greater interoperability with Media Composer sessions.

This includes the ability to navigate and communicate ideas with track-level markers. The update also improves the user experience with more intuitive MIDI tools and guided I/O setup, plus surround monitoring capabilities for the Pro Tools | Coal.

“With this update to Pro Tools, we show our commitment to delivering continued value for our Pro Tools products and systems. “We are excited to address many frequently requested features to make Pro Tools better every quarter for the customers who depend on it,” says François Quereuil, vice president of product management for audio and music solutions at Avid.

Pro Tools 2023.6 incorporates track markers that allow music and audio post-production users to insert points into a track, performance notes, references to dialogue and lyrics, and editing comments. Customers can use markers to provide detailed, colorful feedback within a track, streamlining navigation and improving arranging, mixing and collaboration workflows. Track markers also offer greater interoperability and compatibility with Media Composer when exporting Pro Tools sessions.

Pro Tools now also features new track widths up to 9.1.6 to support Dolby Atmos and other immersive formats, including MPEG-H. These new bandwidths expand the formats that can be mixed and monitored, but also allow for more advanced 3D plugin processing. Users can now also import and export high-quality Dolby Atmos mixes with support for 96kHz ADM files. The new bandwidths offer higher resolution to improve spatial accuracy in modern game engines and virtual reality workflows with support for Ambisonics up to 7th order.

This update continues to improve the Pro Tools user experience with several new features. Select and configure audio hardware is the most fundamental step in setting up a system, and Pro Tools now simplifies the process with a guided setup if no device is configured, helping users get started faster.
