Calrec consoles manage the audio of the latest edition of the Super Bowl
Super Bowl LIX, which opted for a hybrid approach, was produced by the team of Fox Sports with three Apollo consoles and four Artemis units from Calrec.
With more than 50 microphones and dozens of other channels, the audio management of the Super Bowl It was once again quite a challenge. Jamie McCombs, a Fox Sports consultant, was one of those responsible for ensuring that this production, followed by millions of people around the globe, was offered with the greatest audio clarity, supporting the narration of the action in the process.
To achieve this purpose, McCombs has relied on technology from Calrec. Specifically, the Fox Sports team has used three consoles Calrec Apollo in different mobile units and four consoles Calrec Artemis at the Caesars Superdome stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. All of them were interconnected with nuclei ImPulse the cores Hydra2 through gateways AoIP, and, some, through flows MADI. "Being able to share between all the consoles is fantastic. Right now, we are using AoIP through an AoIP gateway to be able to share material between all the consoles. MADI streams make things a lot easier: we share a lot of information throughout the complex with the different entities," said the audio engineer.
Looking to the future, McCombs It is clear that large events like the Super Bowl will bet on taking advantage of the possibilities provided by the immersive settings through 5.1 or 7.1 channels: "We can include more audio channels; they keep adding them all the time. I don't know how far we can go, but it's exciting."
