Crossmedia improves RTVE Play's recommendation technology in collaboration with 24i and AWS
As the winner of “Lot 2: recommendations and personalization” of a recent competition RTVE, Cross media (Crosspoint) enhances customization RTVE Play with advanced recommendation technology along with its partner technological 24 i and deploying infrastructure in AWS.
He Lot 2 of the RTVE tender The objective was to implement a system of personalized recommendations that could be integrated with multiple RTVE data sources, guaranteeing an optimized experience for users of RTVE Play. The solution had to analyze the consumption history, user profile and preferences to offer relevant content in a dynamic way and adjusted to each profile. Furthermore, a system with feedback mechanisms that would allow us to continually improve the accuracy of recommendations based on user interaction.
The solution presented by Cross media y 24 i largely met these requirements. Specifically, in its technical evaluation, RTVE highlighted the proposal of Crosspoint (empresa matriz de Crossmedia) for its robust and well-structured approach. Jorge Frias, head of digital media of Crossmedia, comments in this regard: "We are very grateful for the trust placed by RTVE, and for the privilege of being part of this innovative project with RTVE Play. Our alliance with 24i and the implementation on AWS allows us to offer a highly flexible and very powerful recommendation solution, which will undoubtedly improve the way in which users interact with RTVE Play."
Among the most valued aspects are the integration with the RTVE Play ecosystem, the flexibility and scalability of the solution, and the clear structure of development, pre-production and production, providing stability and quality in deployments. Also highlighted was the high level of security and redundancy in the infrastructure hosted on AWS, including the implementation of a redundant point-to-point line for connection to the RTVE DMZ; the technical experience of the work team, made up of specialists in OTT platforms and content personalization; the ability to integrate with RTVE's various data sources, highlighting SAP's CDC for user management; the sensor Live, which with its ECO (Experience Centric Operations) technology, collects in real time all user activity in RTVE Play in any of its environments and platforms, or a modular design that provides a highly personalized and optimized user experience.

The recommendation engine 24 i It is the heart of the customization system RTVE Play, providing a series of differential characteristics, based on intelligent personalization and data-driven technology. Your solution, with capabilities machine learning, allows to generate real-time recommendations adjusted to user behavior and offers compatibility with various types of content: from videos and audios, to news and podcasts.
Thanks to a sophisticated feedback system, the algorithm constantly improves its suggestions, allowing for an increasingly accurate and relevant experience. This is possible thanks to the 24i template suite, which provides RTVE with multiple ways to highlight content such as recommendation models based on user activity and the similarity between different segments or groups of users, or based on metadata, which suggest content that users have shown interest in consuming.
To further improve the accuracy of recommendations, 24i has developed models based on popularity, optimized with advanced filtering options. These capabilities allow RTVE to generate specific recommendations by genre or type of content, adjusting to editorial needs and providing flexibility for the correct curation of content in a semi-structured format, complemented with a fully algorithmic dynamic discovery system.
Looking ahead, 24i is developing custom user pages, allowing each viewer to enjoy a landing page tailored to your viewing behavior, whether for TV series, movies, radio, podcasts or articles. This approach provides RTVE with a solution customization designed specifically for broadcasters, with a wide variety of content formats and diverse consumption preferences in homes.
On the other hand, the integration with AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, SageMaker y QuickSight offers agile and efficient data processing, providing RTVE with a centralized management panel that simplifies monitoring, tuning, and analyzing the performance of recommendations.
