OTV broadcasts the 29th Okinawa Marathon with the Matrox Monarch Edge S1
The Monarch Edge S1 encoding and decoding solution from Matrox allowed Okinawa Television Broadcasting (OTV) Live broadcast the 29th Okinawa Marathon from multiple broadcast points.
Okinawa Television Broadcasting (OTV), subsidiary of Fuji Television Network, is defined as a regional television network based in Naha, Okinawa. Television produces a wide range of programs, including local news, sports, documentaries and entertainment, with a focus on community-oriented content that reflects Okinawan's unique culture and identity. Recently, the station took on the responsibility of shaping the live coverage of the 29th Okinawa Marathon, a highly demanding project that required a solution to establish video and audio links between its headquarters and two key remote points: the start/finish line in the stadium and a mid-course relay point known as Kaiho bridge.
To enable this communication, the OTV used to deploy separate sets of encoders and decoders for each transmission direction, as well as dedicated 4 W lines for communication. In order to streamline its operations and improve its workflow, OTV has opted on this occasion for the installation of four Matrox Monarch Edge S1: two at its headquarters, one at the stadium and one at the Kaiho Bridge broadcast point.
Unlike traditional setups, which required multiple devices and dedicated communication lines, Monarch Edge S1 offers a solution all in one capable of bidirectional encoding and decoding simultaneous, emit signals tally and support two-way talkback via balanced analog audio I/O or integrated into SDI. The team also allowed the high-quality SDI signal transport with low latency.
Kouki Shohei, a member of OTV's production technology department, values the deployment of the Matrox solution, underlining that the combination of simultaneous bidirectional encoding/decoding, tally output and audio talkback “was a clear advantage over other solutions and allowed us to significantly improve operational efficiency and reduce configuration complexity.” Looking ahead, OTV is evaluating potential applications of the Monarch Edge S1 for other manufacturing processes. remote production.
